type of clothing in LV?

Holiday will be on us in about 1 month, starting to think about packing and promised hubby to pack lightly this year. So, what about clothing in LV (be there mid-Oct), is it very casual/casual smart or dressy at night? We are not planning on a show, but probably typical evening will be drinks, nice meal and going around hotels and casinos - what do you think? Is the Air Conditioning as savage as people say or do they turn it down a touch in October? If, so will we need jackets for inside?
P.S. What sort of temps. are normal for that time of year? We will be having 1 day at G. Canyon - how should we dress for this? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Casual is the dress code. In the casinos it will always be cooler than to your liking...they gotta keep you "alive", lol.

Hi Lynn, are you from the UK? I love when you(Brits) say holiday rather than vacation! I personally like nice capris with a blouse or sweater(jumper)and slides for a nice dinner out. IMO, it depends what restaurant you go to. For our upcoming trip in Sept, I will be wearing this combo to Mon Ami Gabi, Emerils Fish house and Olives. I personally like to do casual smart for evenings. For the Canyon, I would layer. Layering would be the thing for October's outdoor weather IMO. Have a great "holiday"! Judy

In general, attire of visitors to Las Vegas is about as tacky as you'll find in a major US city (and compared with much of Europe, dress in the US is pretty shabby in general). You'll see appallingly tacky outfits, far too many beer bellies poking out from under T-shirts which state "I'm with stupid", shiny pink jogging suits by the score, fanny packs galore, lots of bad makeup, etc.
The era of dressing up to go out in LV died sometime in the late 1970's to early 1980's.
At nicer restaurants and hotels many people still get somewhat dressed up to go out....but that's clearly a minority of people.
To wit, there was a post recently about a bunch of people showing up for dinner at Picasso at Bellagio ($150+ per person restaurant) in shorts. Apparently they were turned away, and that's unusual in LV. You'll see people at very nice restaurants and shows in LV wearing the same clothes they'd wear to the beach.
Feel free to buck the trend and be fashionably well dressed, though.

I would have to agree with Rwilliams here. Keep in mind that Vegas, although a playground for the very wealthy - most of the people you and I will see on the streets in the casinos are very average and they come from all over the US. That means, whatever is IN-style in po-dunk Arkansas is probably not to par with what is hip and fashionable anywhere else. My husband and I can point out where most people are from by what they consider "dressed up" for the night. Mind you, tacky people's money is just as green as a Hong Kong high-roller, so Vegas caters to everyone. And, Vegas won't go back to high-style anytime soon, because it's really middle-class Americans that pay the bills in Vegas. You think the high-rollers run the show, but they're just good for flash to get us common folks there to look. Casinos will not make money off high-rollers, they're used to comping and free crap, and they rarely pay their debts. But, middle Americans lose their paychecks every day with nary a glance - so don't expect Vegas to go back to the rat-pack days anytime soon.

Sorry for the long diatribe - in answer to what to wear during October. I run pretty hot, so I will bring tanks & shorts for the day and have smart, light dresses for the evening. I prefer to dress up at night - no matter the surroundings. The hubby is more annoyed at my making him wear a suit at night, when he'd much prefer to be more casual and dress in dark Tommy Bahama pants with a light-weight tropical wool polo or silk dress shirt. He hates ties!

Grand Canyon - check with your tour guide and see if they'll help. I would wear comfortable sneakers and probably shorts and a nice shirt. Or, wear flat sandals with a summer dress. I think it's still hot in Vegas in October - but then again, I always think it's hot.

Good luck and have fun!

Air conditioner is not turned down in October. They run it on "full" like they don't have to pay electricity bills. Same goes for November and February.

Grand Canyon will be cooler than Vegas. Be prepared with long pants and a light jacket or windbreaker to wear over a shirt or sweater. Sneakers or hiking shoes are a must, unless you are content to view the canyon from overlooks. Have fun.

some good answers there, thanks. I can start the packing now! You all confirmed what someone at work (with has just been to LV)told me about the style of dress in LV.
