travel with 14 y/o

We are doing a family trip over Christmas. I am curious as to restaurants and my daughter being able to be admitted if there is live music.
We are staying 6 nights and looking for a good restaurant for Christmas dinner.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can't imagine why you'd think having music would keep your daughter from being welcomed. She'll be fine but there may be a music charge per person or a drinks minimum (obviously she'd have soft drinks) if it's a jazz place. Cafe Wha is actually a very popular place for families.

There are loads of options for Xmas dinner from cheap(ish) and cheerful to quite fancy. What do you have in mind?

going to NYC 12/21-12/27. Haven't been to NY in 16 years so not up to date on restaurants. We have tickets to Spamalot and want to see a play also. In AR, under 21 can't go to clubs. This is why i was wondering about the live music. Thanks

You might try Ellen's Stardust for dinner while you are here. It's a diner with sandwiches, great milkshakes, comfort food and it's quite good (love the monte christo sandwich). All the servers are Broadway wantabees they also sing. It's a fun place.

You may have some problems if you are heading to a "bar" with music, they do card so a teen would not be admitted, but other than that you shouldn't have a problem.

Have a GREAT trip.

"Clubs" is somewhat different than what you originally asked about which was restaurants with live music. Clubs that depend on selling alcohol for their income or places that have dancing may not allow someone underage, but I can't think of any restaurant with live music that would turn away a 14 yr. old accompanied by a parent.

If it's a restaurant with meals and music your 14 year old can go. If it's just a club/bar - esp with dancing - it's highly unlikely she will be allowed in.

If youlook at the web sites of Time Out New York and New York Magazines it will tell you who has what type of usic when - and you can call and check about your daughter if it's not clear what type of place it is.

For Christmas dinner reserve early. What is your budget? (Both opentable.com and menupages.com will usually list which restaurants have Christmas dinner - but perhaps not until after Thanksgiving.)
