Thanks for sharing! Can you tell me if this is on restaurants.com? If so, how do I go about taking advantage of the deals?

Thanks for the help

Hill

No, just go through the process of figuring out what you want and putting it in the shopping cart.
When you check out, put SURPRISE in the discount code box... I think it is in the upper right side of the shopping cart screen and it will recalculate the total!
YAY!
I just bought 10 more certifs!

Hill- Not sure if this was a typo or if you're looking on the wrong website, but it's restaurant.com (not restaurants pleural).

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Got several certificates for local restaurants and passed the deal on to many friends.

Excellent!

I haven't found these GCs that usable in Boston. This is my own personal experience...

1) Majority of the restaurants in Boston have specific limitations on the GC. For example, Dinner only with purchase of 2 entrees and minimum $35 on food; not valid on Fri/Sat/Sun

2) There have been at least 2 restaurants in Boston I have come across in last few months which participated in Restaurant.com but later pulled out of it. Neither one honored the GC even though they are valid for 1 year. I had to email to Restaurant.com to get a refund.

So, the moral of the story is:

1) Make sure you read the fine prints of the GCs. If that works for you, great. But for us (DH prefers to go out for dinner on w/e), they don't work so well.

2) Once you bought the GCs, use it soon. If you aren't using them right away, check on restaurant.com website to see if the restaurant is still participating BEFORE you go. If they pulled out, check with the restaurant to see if they still accept the GC.

(DH prefers to go out for dinner on w/e)

We have "Girls Night Out" on fridays, so these are perfect. I did read the fine print and the only restriction for the restaurant we love (and go to often at full price) is "minimum order of $35 --only good for dinner". Easy! I guess for $2 each, I'm willing to take a chance.

Thanks again, TxTravelPro

I just bought a couple. Will heed warning to check validity before going to restaurant.

Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on the discount!!! I just bought several as stocking stuffers for my daughter and husband. I will just give them the extra cash for the minimum - (they can pay for their own wine!!)

I have had 2 restaurants close before I could use the certifs and BOTH times restaurant.com contacted me with the notification and refund.
I suspect that when someone calls to complain that a restaurant is closed, restaurant.com notifies all people with 'open' certifs.
Unfortunately, that first person finds out the hard way.
I also open every email from restaurant.com because that is how they notified me in the first place!

I have had no problems finding places to go in the Dallas metroplex, but have noticed that certifs in major 'urban' cities are a bit more restrictive that those in the suburbs and sprawling metro areas.
In addition, these big city restaurants are often a little more put off by the use of the certifs which puzzles me (I mean, they are not forced to participate or anything!). But NYC restaurants are not as friendly as Dallas restaurants to begin with so... just sayin'.

I used restaurant.com certifs on my last trips to San Diego, Austin, Portland OR, Phoenix, LA and Tampa. No problems at all... and luckily Dallas is a great market for the site because I find dozens of places we would go without a coupon!
Locally I love to get BBQ certifs and use the full amount on meat and sides to go.
A few weeks ago, I got a pound of sliced brisket, a pound of ribs and 3 sides for 10.00 at a BBQ joint in McKinney, Tx!

Oh, and they are valid a MINIMUM of 12 months, even more in some states.

Sure there are often terms/conditions and once in a while the place goes out of business but the conditions are up front and you get a refund for the latter... so why the heck not?

Obviously, I am a huge fan

They are a good deal if it works out for you.

I used to use them A LOT when I lived in Philadelphia, which was almost 10 years ago. The GCs used to be available on ebay, so I bought many $25 GCs by paying just $0.50!

Those were the days...

I got a $100 restaurant.com credit earlier this year for cashing in some UA miles, in order to keep my UA FF account UTD.

I still haven't been able to use the $100 credit up yet. Had to cancel my purchase and get a refund a couple of times (due to the restaurant drop out), and other times as I've said, too restrictive conditions.

TxTravel - My daughter and husband live in Corpus Christi and two of their favorite restaurants had the GC's so I was particularly pleased and they will be too when they find them in their stocking.

There is still a good discount of 70% off with THANKS as the discount code.
Yes, there is a lot of fine print, and don't load up unless you are sure you're going to use them.
BUT if you pay $2 for a certificate of $25 off, and you buy $35 worth of food, it is costing you $12 net. Of course, you're going to spend more, but it is still $23 discount off your meal.
