welcome! YOu'll love our city.
Check out choosechicago.com for events and transitchicago.com for trains (the "el" ) and buses. YOu can get a one day pass for $5, may be a 3 or 5 day pass and jump on and off buses as you bounce around the city (and warmer than walking).
Skip the observation decks at the Sears or Hancock and go to the Hancocks 96th fl lounge, have a coffee or cocktail while overlooking the city for less cost than the deck. Beautiful!
See Marshall Fields on state street, 7th fl Walnut room for lunch.
Tea in the afternoon at the famous Drake Hotel. Theres also a Russian Tea Room on Adams a 1/2 block from the Art Institute
Walk Millenium Park
Blue line (el) W to Damen, tour the boutiques and restaurants around Bucktown neighborhood.
DInner at Topolobampo or it's less pricey counterpart Frontera Grill (Rick Bayless is our local celebrity chef!)
I like Pizanos on N State ST for pizza, orig, old time joint.
Berghoff for a classic restaurant with german food and right downtown in the loop
I think theres fireworks on Saturdays along the river and MIchigan Ave.
Dress warm and walk the free Lincoln Park zoo. Maybe the animals will also venture into the cold.
Stop in a bar and cheer on the Bears in the Superbowl!

While you're at the Lincoln Park Zoo, go to the Conservatory (the glass building just south of Fullerton Avenue) for their Christmas show of plants and model trains. It's charming...and free, and it's nice and warm in there!
