The Monarch vs. Mayflower

Can anyone tell me how the standard rooms are at the Mayflower? How is it compared to the Monarch(quality of rooms and service)? We are going in October and have gotten great rates on both ($140)
Thanks!

Are you talking about Washington, DC? Remember that all posts end up in the same general US forum.

If you are, I'd choose the Mayflower based on history, rooms and location. I like the Conn Ave location better than the Monarch's West End locale.

I would choose the mayflower over the monarch. The monarch does have better rooms, but are on the smaller side and the location is not very good. The renaissance mayflower on the other hand is only 4 blocks from the white house and about 6 from the museums. The rooms are large and somewhat luxurious with service being the focus of that hotel. There are more people working in the hotel than there are rooms, numbering 550 plus.

Kathy,

Some relatives stayed at the Monarch a while back and enjoyed it. The only problem is that it is a bit of a walk to the nearest metro.

Personally, I would choose the Mayflower. It's on the registry of historic landmarks in the U.S., and it really pretty. Plus, as the other posters said, the location can't be beat.

We've also eaten dinner at the restaurant hotel, and I can say it's quite good. Many people have told me that the Sunday brunch is fantastic, but I have not experienced it myself.

I would also stay at the Mayflower - the location can't be beat. We stay there whenever in Washington and have always been totally satisfied. I was especially impressed one night when we came back to the hotel late and saw housekeeping people down on their hands and knees cleaning the baseboards. It is very clean.
