I live in DC and have therefore not stayed at the hotel, however it generally has good "buzz" around town. I think the location is very good -- it is on a relatively quiet mostly residential block, but yet is only a short walk to restaurants, shops and the metro. The bar usually gets very good write-ups in the Washington Post. It is right next door to the Tabard Inn, a long-standing DC hotel that is about 180 degrees different in feel than Topaz, but has a lovely restaurant and cozy lounge. I'd go for it!

Good location and bar scene. Checked out the rooms a couple years ago and they were quite nice. I have stayed at several other Kimpton properties and they have all been nice.

I stayed there for a business trip in December, 2005. I thought it was great. The room was spacious, the staff was accommodating and the decor was a bit edgier than what you'd find in your standard chain hotel. If you get a chance, join the Kimpton "In Touch" rewards program on their web site before you leave. I was upgraded to a larger room and found a personalized note in my room when I arrived thanking me for choosing the hotel for my stay.
