The Graduate with Lorraine Bracco - any good?

Heard mediocre reviews for The Graduate and wondered if Bracco's arrival improves the quality of the play...

I hope she is beeter than last night's real clunker of a season finale on the Sopranos! A brand new Hoover couldn't even suck that bad! PU! I'm done. They make you wait alomost 2 yrs and then they come back with a total lackluster season like this. Ciao Tony. I hope you and Carm work it out without me.

I would think that her arrival would kill the play.
She sounds like an Italian housewife from Brooklyn. Do you ever see her on the Sopranos? That is the part of the show when we laugh the most! That accent, and the way she tries to say big words without stumbling!

I saw it a few weeks ago. No it doesn't improve the quality of the play. She is flat and boring.

With the exception of the actress playing Elaine, I found the entire production a snooze. Avoid and you will not have missed anything.

from an aesthetic point of view, the "scenery" might improve slightly, as Kathleen Turner may be a little "past her prime" to be doing nude scenes. Although, as annoying as she is on the Soprano's and as bad as she looked in the finale I don't think the nude scenes will be improved much. Other than that the production was said to suck with the original cast and now they have replaced the group with a less stellar cast. you do the math.

I saw Lorraine Bracco in the show last week and she was fine. The problem is that for me Anne Bancroft from the movie The Graduate will always be Mrs. Robinson.

At the end of the show, Lorraine's towel was auctioned off for charity. All the actors were onstage while various men in the audience bid for it. The final bid was $275 and Lorraine will autograph the towel. Cute.

After seeing Edie Falco's performance on the Sopranos last Sunday, I think they should have had Carmela instead of Dr. Melfi as Mrs. Robinson. Bracco had the cool calm demeanor of Anne Bancroft, but none of the underlying unfulfillment and rage in Mrs. Robinson was evident in Bracco's performance.

Falco's performance in the Sopranos however showed she has exactly the acting ability needed to play the part of Mrs. Robinson

Edie was absolutely riveting on Frankie and Johnny and to imagine her doing The Graduate after is a little laughable.

Yeah emma, I was just commenting on the acting skills of the two. I wasn't serious. Do you watch the Sopranos? I thought Edie Falco gave the most convincing performance of a woman on the verge - or I guess past the verge - that I have ever seen.

and I for one, think that storyline was overplayed and turned a once great mobster series into a high end "all my children". Tony should have smacked her around, and cut that whole 50 minute tirade down to about 3 minutes.

I saw the Graduate in Boston before it hit Broadway (original cast up here). I didn't think it was very good then, and frankly I was surprized it survived the 9/11 crisis on Broadway. I feel it's the play that is lacking, not the cast (i.e. new cast really can't do much to improve a lackluster script) There are so many better shows. Rent the movie, it's superior to the stage version.

I feel obligated to bring up the age old argument that this type of post is out of place on this board. If you want reviews of plays you should find some other kind of board. This has nothing to do with travel. I know the refrains I'll get "Yes it does have to do with travel because many people come to NY to see plays..." Please, next thing you know we'll have to deal with "Anybody see Spider-Man yet?" or "I missed last night's episode of _______, what happended?"

Sorry must have one pathetic life if it feels that it's sole purpose is to monitor (without pay mind you), this forum. No one asked you, you old fart.

I can't stand Bracco, she's totally unconvincing as a psychiatrist, and she isn't even in the same league as Bancroft, who will also be the only Mrs. Robinson for me, although I think Joan Collins could pull off the part, since she's familiar with seducing younger men, and apparently quite good at it.

As for the Soprano's final episode - I LOVED it. Thought it was the best one yet (OK, tied for when Christofuh and Paulie get lost in the woods). Carmela finally snapped, and I think she portrayed the part very, very well. Even mobsters have domestic problems.
