Unfortunately it now looks as though she has been destroyed by fire. So sad.

Unbelievable! I was there with my two boys last month and we were disappointed because we couldn't see it. We made the promise to come back in 2009 when the works would be finished...

Apparently not completely "destroyed"...

"There are pockets of charred planking and some have gone, but it doesn't look as bad as first envisaged."

Looks as tbough not everything is lost:

But no doubt it will take even more time and expense to have something on display.

Some of the planking and artifacts had been removed before the restoration work began, so at least they have a few bits to go on.

Fire, in the midst of the seas, was the worst hazard these old ships had....

I loved that old ship. The last time I toured it my youngest son was with me. It was wonderful how the nomenclature comes back to you . . . it brought back so many happy memories of living on a tall ship in my teens.

Such a shame. Arson hasn't been ruled out.
I remember when the Moshulu caught fire in Philadelphia...that was sad enough and the Moshulu was far less historically significant than the Cutty Sark. However, they did manage to restore the Moshulu after the fire, so fingers crossed the same will happen to the CS.

I've been three times in London..and the three times I wanted to go to Greenwich and see the Cutty Sark...finally I had no time and decided it wasn't going to move...As an old spanish saying says "never leave for tomorrow what you can do today".

What a shame. We weren't able to see it in Feb, just they scaffolding around it was they were working on it. Very sad that I hadn't made the time to tour it on previous trips.

If it's arson I hope they catch the bastard and keelhaul him.
