Thanksgiving Poi

Just thinking about Hawaii, and wondering if poi makes it way onto anyone's Thanksgiving menu?

aloha poi,

Absolutely!

Along with fresh whole grilled mahimahi, steamed Okinawan sweet potatoes (purple), fresh ahi sashimi, and all the traditional holiday fixins.

It was yummy, as always. <burp!>

It wasn't on the table with thanksgiving dinner, but I had some for this morning to ease my hunger while cooking.
We had limu poke, ahi sashimi, mussel kim chee on the table along side the turkey, mashed potatoes, and all the rest of your typical T-day dishes.

(Speaking of trip reports) - Roxy, some time I'll tell you about a Thanksgiving my wife and I spent in Fiji, featuring kava, smoked marlin, turkey, fresh-picked pineapple, canned cranberry sauce, fruit bats, hysterical hoteliers and a dead cat. Not today, though.

Gardyloo,

Whoa. Sounds like that story is right up my alley. I think you need to post it as a holiday gift to us all.

I'm delighted that poi is on so many tables!

And, as an unashamed lover of the canned jellied cranberry sauce, I would like to register my complaint that they redesigned the can this year so you can't open it from both ends, which is the best way to shake that jelly out. They tell you to run a flat knife around it, but that ended up ruining the smooth, fresh-from-the-can appearance. Curses! I love the rings the tin can makes! It's festive!

love
roxy, who had punkin pie for breakfast

The poi was on our table next to the ahi and tako poke. It was the perfect compliment to the fresh fish the guys brought back from spear fishing yesterday morning.

mmm lcuy, I bet the mussel poke hit the spot!! where was my place at the table? ha ha

No poi for us for Thanksgiving, only because we have an overabundance of carbs anyway. But for the rest of the holidays.....poi to the world!

BTW my friend just sent me a link to buying poi merchandise:
