Sun Night in NYC

Any suggestions for how to spend a Sun night besides in our hotel room in the city? Is anything open? We'll be there in Dec. too cold to wander the park.

Is anything open? Of course!! This is, after all, New York City! What, exactly, are you looking to do? I wouldn't "wander" the park at night.

Have dinner at one of our many, many fine restaurants and then go to the top of the Empire State Building.

Sunday night is like every other night in New York City. Everything is open. It will be cold, but not enough to make you stay in your hotel room. Don't wander the park at night, cold or not.
That is best left for daylight.
Some ideas of areas to wander:
Times Square
Upper West side/Lincoln Center area
Upper East side/Fifth Avenue
Soho
Chinatown-Little Italy
Enjoy your visit!

Nothing is open. Everything shuts down on Sunday night. Completely closed, nada, nothing, zilch. Everyone leaves town. Even the locals.

In December you can walk through Central Park most days if you're bundled up well. The temps can be anywhere from 10 degrees to 50, but assume around 30. During the day it is fine, but still not a great idea to walk in after dark.

Sunday evenings, most stores are closed (usually by 6 ) museums shut down at 5, theaters only have matinees which end by 5 or 6. So, you're left with walking, eating, going to the movies, going to Rockefeller Center (skating rink might be open evenings). Maybe a music performance at a small club

Since you'll be here around the holidays, you'll find that many stores are open late for shopping (up until 8-ish or even 9). This includes smaller stores in trendy neighborhoods like Soho, Greenwich Village, East Village and the Lower East Side.

You don't mention what you like to do but everything is available at your fingertips. Check out the listings at Time Out New York Magazine.

Because of archaic Blue Laws, liquor stores are closed on Sundays but you can have a drink at a restaurant or bar/lounge by noon.

Personally, I love to go to the Theater on Sundays (much easier than on Saturday nights). Have you considered looking into all the GREAT plays that will be there during December? There's Something for everyone's taste!!Dress warm and you'll be fine!

Talk a walk thru the Rockefeller Center. Catch the holiday decorations and display.

Sorry, Julie, but there's not much to choose from in the way of great plays or any other plays for that matter on a Sunday night.

We have tickets for a matinee on Sun. We'll do dinner after then head to Rockefeller Center. I'm not familiar with RC, if it's cold are there places to go inside. We look at the tree, what else?

After looking at tree & watching the skaters, maybe go across 5th and look at Saks windows, then go in to see the store holiday decorations. Also, you can pop into St. Patricks - it is beautiful, especially at night. Then how about going for dessert & coffee?

Thanks Howard...I should have specified Sunday matinees with a nice dinner afterwards. Sorry if I was misleading! Julie
