Well that doubles your chances wherever LaGuardia may be.

Assuming your friends are not New Yorkers with ideas of their own about what to do, Flushing is the second largest Chinese neighborhood in NYC, and it is full of Chinese restaurants of all cuisines and at all price levels.

If you like Asian food, take a taxi to Flushing, which is a center of NYCs best Koreana and Chinese restaurants. You can begin the night at one of the Korean drinking establishments.

This one was featured by Tony Bourdain on his show:

Eat there, or move on to Chinese food; I can recommend places if you are interested. It is all quite close to Laguardia.

If you want to go into Manhattan, look at going to places in midtown on the east side, as this will be the easiest for getting back to LGA. (I assume your hotel is out at the airport?) Not sure what kind of drinking etc. your'e looking for, but 2nd Ave in the 50's has a lot of Irish pubs and drinking establishments like Social.

Both nymag.com and menupages.com are good resources for NYC - the former has a comprehensive nightlife section, and the latter lists all dining establishments in the city by neighborhood, cuisine, etc. I find the user reviews on both to be fairly accurate. Reviews on Yelp can also be helpful.

I assume you realize La Guardia is not in Manhattan and most of the airports near LGA are not near a subway. You're talking about a $25-35 taxi fare each way into Manhattan. Unless your outgoing flight is at 6 am, I would seriously reconsider your hotel choice and stay IN Manhattan if you want to go partying. That said, there aren't a lot of places where 42 yr olds dance in Manhattan. The dancing venues are decidely younger with the exception of a place like Swing 42 with a big band and swing dancing or if you go to a tango night somewhere.

If you give us an idea of where your friends will be (are they traveling with you?) and what kind of food you'd like, we can better respond.

Typo above. I meant to write most of the HOTELS near LGA are not near a subway.
