South Coast Maine Lodging & Restaurants

Hi....I've been reading reading reading all of the restaurant and lodging recommendations from all of you.... altho many of them are a few years old. So thought I'd ask for some more up-to-date recommendations! I've called the York Harbor Inn, altho we could only get into their Harbor Crest House....wondering if anyone has stayed in that particular bldg? (no oceanview, pricey room, .5 mile away from the rest of the complex, but looks nice on the website). Also, has anyone stayed at the Trellis House in Ogunquit? Thanks much! Colette

We haven't been this season, but try to get to seachambers.com once or twice midweek for their lowest priced room that my fit the budget. The rooms are basic, the views, at the property wonderful and I adore their pool. Walk to dinner, experience the cliffwalk. and walk 3 miles of hard sand beach if you'd like. Not sure where the trellis house is. I'll google.

I stayed at the Trellis House last year. There were 3 of us in 3 different rooms. Two of us were satisfied, one thought it was just okay. Rooms do vary quite a bit. Most offer only very limited view of ocean. My room was on top floor of garage, nicely appointed, with a small deck with a view of the ocean in the distance. It is a short walk to the beach, no problem with traffic noise. Hosts were very gracious. Nice breakfast. Hope this helps.

Peggy, thanks for your reply! Glad to hear the breakfasts were good, short walk to the beach, and nice hosts! I loved hearing the details! They're pretty full on the dates we want, so we had 2 choices of rooms: the Littlefield room, and also The BarbaryCottage.....both small rooms but fit our budget. Any takes on either of these rooms? (I realize you may have forgotten the names of all the rooms you and the others stayed in....but thought I'd take a stab at it anyway). Thanks Peggy!

Hi Colette,

All I can tell you is that we stayed in what they called the carriage house.
I was on the top floor and it was lovely, confortable bed. One friend, also in the carriage house, was in a small room on the first level and it was attractive, but a bit dark, and a little musty smelling. I did not see any rooms in the main house.

Thank you Peggy.....Interesting what you said, because we're also staying in the carriage house, altho on the 1st floor. I chose the room I did because the bed looked less "saggy" and the room looked brighter than the pricier room behind the carriage house (which is actually a little tiny cottage). In the website photo, that room appeared dark, the mattress looked saggy, and it also appeared to smell musty. (teehee) Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thanks again, Peggy!

Dear Dear kealalani!!!! Not only did I check out the seachambers, (I'm also a lover of the pools), but I like your style....."call", "call again", and "call call AGAIN" for that desired restaurant reservation!!! (and you didn't think I was paying attention).

Check out the Chapman House next door to the York Harbor Inn. Lovely rooms, chef-owned and operated, fabulous dinners. (And you can still take advantage of the York Harbor Inn's "Happy Hour" free eats if you buy a beer or a drink around 5:30!)
