You asked about our visit to the NW. Yes, we were at Silver Falls several years ago, and at ONP (not for the first time) but first visit to falls last year, and especially liked Sol Duc. I love the play of light on objects, and the sunlight coming through the rain forest on the walk to the falls was beautiful.

We went in early July and spent 4 nights at Manitou, 2 in Sequim, 3 in Coupville before heading to Mt Baker. As you can see, we prefer to have a base for a few days and do short trips (but mostly hikes) out from that base.

Yes, it rained or at least drizzled most of the time we were at ONP. We were told it was unusual for summer, but we didn't know that, so had prepared ourselves for "rainforest" weather and thereby were able to keep a good attitude.

Unfortunately, DH had a sprained ankle on the trip so didn't do as many hikes as we would have liked, but we loved just exploring Rialto and either 2nd or 3rd beach. The day we were by Ruby, it was really raining, so didn't stop there. Guess that's my regret.

You mentioned LaConner area. That's a place I'd love to see during the bulb bloom. We'll be passing through that area again this summer, but again not when the tulips are out. Guess I need to get out of the teacher career so we can vacation different times of the year.

Fantastic feedback...helped clarify things a lot! Did it feel kinda far off the 101 while staying at Manitou? Like almost too far out of the way?

Would be nice to be closer to beaches, but I read it's 10 miles off 101...
so I'm beginning to wonder if staying in Forks itself quicker to get in & out of, for touring?

Miller Tree Inn is the possibility in town, I think.
