SF - fly into Oakland or San Jose?

Which is better to fly into if you're visiting SF for the weekend?

Oakland or San Jose?

We would arrive on Friday evening and depart on Sunday evening.

Thanks!

Oakland for sure. Getting from San Jose airport to downtown SF is a real pain no matter how you do it.

from Oakland you can take BART, a shuttle, or even a taxi wouldn't be outrageously expensive.

Thanks! I'm tempted to do BART or a taxi since I don't want to rent a car for the weekend.

BART is good, but check how late the airBART (a bus connecting the airport with BART)is running. Open the OAK website, click on public transportation.

Shuttle is cheaper then a taxi.

Where is your hotel? BART is not going to all parts of SF.

OAK. And the only reason not to fly into oakland is if there is a severe price variance for the airfare.

Definitely Oakland. San Jose is just too far from SF. Yes do try getting there on BART. Very convenient and it will take you to Downtown SF quick. A taxi is OK if you are not arriving at rush hour. On Sunday check the BART weekend schedule since service is not as frequent as the weekdays. If for any reason you need a taxi from the BART station to the airport there are several of them waiting all the time incase you miss the AirBART Shuttle.

As an Oaktown woman, I enjoy reading these positive comments about our (IMHO unfairly) maligned city, even if it is just about the airport!
