Anyone know a reliable company, cab or similar that could transport two adults and four kids and would be reliable and not too expensive maybe $50 or so. Or, can I do even better?

It can be a long haul to the BART station with lots of luggage and a gaggle of 4 kids who may be tired, whiny, and unhappy pulling their luggage -- and in the end, you still have to get from your destination station to your destination hotel or other accommodations. There is a Super Shuttle Service that lists prices at $13.50 per person to go from the airport to downtown hotels on their website (www.supershuttle.com.) I have never used this but many locals do and I've never heard any complaints. They may make several stops before reaching your hotel. I don't know if they have children's rates so it might be cheaper to just take a cab. Your hotel might be able to offer advice as to the best way to reach them.

BART is the way to go since it has reached the airport. It is not a long haul to the station. The people mover is about as close as any other form of transportation. The one issue is how close is BART to your hotel destination.

Michael, I think a lot depends on where your gate is, which terminal you're in, how much luggage you have, and perhaps how old you are. If you are 20-30 something with just a rollaboard, I agree the people-mover is great. If you have lots of heavy luggage and are corralling either older people or a lot of scattering little people, it's a much different deal.

How about a car service? They usually cost about the same as a cab and you won't have to haul your luggage out to the taxi strip since they usually meet you at baggage claim and help with bags. FYI re: shuttles they do not pick up on the arrival level, so you have to schlep your baggage back up to the departure level.

We had excellent door-to-door service from Supershuttle two years ago. Very reasonable.
