I will be going to Seattle for a conference and wondered if anyone stayed at the Wyndham. How is it? Is there another hotel you recommend? A "fun" hotel? Thanks in advance.

There is no Wyndham Hotel in Seattle.

What is your idea of a "fun" hotel? Wacky room colors? Chamber music in the lobby? Funky neighborhood? Busy bar? Please elaborate.

There is a Wyndham Summerfield Suites near the convention center in downtown Seattle, and a "regular" Wyndham at the airport. Presuming you're referring to the one downtown, it's brand new and looks like your standard "suites" business hotel with a kitchen, a la Residence Inn et al.

Anonymous like the airport Wyndham, "fun" is in the eye of the beholder. HBO and free granola in the morning = fun? Party on.

Wyndham Summerfield Suites is the one I am talking about.

Fun as in funky, wacky room colors! =) I guess I want a change from the standard business hotel type. I also want to be walking distance close to the convention center and the rest of the downtown... BUT, I DON'T need to stay near everyone who's attending the convention!

There used to be a Wyndham in Kirkland at Carillon Point right on the water. It was a beautiful little hotel. Hope it is still there.

Woodmark, not Wyndham, yes, still there. Utterly inconvenient to the convention center, and I don't think it has the atmosphere the OP wants.

Slim pickings for avant-garde in downtown Seattle. Some unique furnishings at the Edgewater I've heard, otherwise maybe one of the "theme" suites at the Alexis (Miles Davis, John Lennon, Sultan of Brunei..) or maybe a 4-poster at the Monaco (both hotels Kimptons).

The Ace Hotel on First (acehotel.com) appears to be trying hard. In the words of Dirty Harry, do you feel lucky?

I really liked Wyndham Summerfield Suites in Seattle when we stayed there on a recent Priceline bid. We got a 1-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, living room (with a pull-out sofa bed), a couple of easy chairs, two TVs, a nice bathroom, and an interesting decor with several Boeing prints. There was a balcony with a sliding glass door overlooking a courtyard. And a free, good-quality breakfast buffet. An excellent 2.5* hotel (although it is nicer than some 4* hotels I have stayed at).

It's about 10 or 12 blocks from Pike Place Market, and easily walkable. It's about 1.5 blocks from the convention center, which is where the free downtown bus zone starts. My preference would probably be to have a hotel right at Westlake Center, but the Summerfield Suites are so nice that I would forego that slight convenience.

I heard about Ace and Monaco but reviews were mixed. People either LIKED it or DIDN'T LIKE at all. I'll go ahead and so some surfing on these two places.

We stayed at the Wyndham Summerfield Suites in late October 2003. If you want to do lots of downtown restaurants, and spend time at Pike's Market, I would stay a little closer in.
The free bus doesn't quite make it to the Wyndham, and you have to walk uphill a couple blocks. This Wyndham wasn't as nice as others we've stayed in, and I thought it was quite mundane.
