Seattle: Lovely breakfast at Cafe Campagne
Friends directed us to Cafe Campagne for breakfast last Sunday and I'm here to report that I was thrilled. Swooning, even. This is the dish I ordered and didn't share (I did, but it wasn't with a generous heart):
Oeufs en meurette
Two poached eggs served on garlic croutons with pearl onions, bacon and champignons
in a red wine and foie gras sauce served with pommes frîtes 15.
It was served with a basket of pommes frites and a little dish of fresh and strong aioli. I asked if the frites were fried in lard because they tasted so good and the waiter advised us no, they weren't but the dinner frites are 'blanched' in duck fat before being finished up in the regular oil.
Someday I hope to report on those frites!

Thanks for posting. I've always heard that was a great place. I work right in the neighborhood. I was there for their Bastille Day celebration a couple years ago that was wonderful (outdoors, with live music, wine for sale, etc.) but have yet to eat there. Will put it on my to-do list!

enzian~ it is THE closest i have ever felt like i was in Europe, in Seattle. they had a female vocalist singing in French of course, with a guitarist & accordian player; they were doing different bits of food street-style on their grill, serving wine by the glass outdoors (they had a section of Post Alley roped off), handing out little French flags
it was incredibly festive. i do hope they do it again this year.

An possibly even more French place than Cafe Campagne is Le Pichet, just around the corner: http://lepichetseattle.com
If you want a dose of France on the wane, check out the new film Summer Hours.

We just had a wonderful breakfast at The Georgian room at the Fairmont this morning, I think we may try Cafe Campagne for breakfast tomorrow am. I loved our apple mango juice and the Smoked Salmon benedicts at The Georgain, the dining room is so elegant there! ***kim***

kim , you must feel like there is So much food and So little time ! I love/hate those 2 day vacations where you want to see and do so much and really cannot do much at all.
How was the deal with the Fairmont? What was it ? $149 for a night? Friends of mine are going to the Fairmont in Vancouver .. Hope you enjoy your long weekend !

I have had the frites done in duck fat at the Restaurant Campagne, and can attest that they are both delicious and heart stopping. When I tried to order them at Cafe Compagne, however, I was told that they are only served in the more posh upstairs restaurant, not the Cafe.
Here is the joint website. Click on either the Cafe, or restaurant. Note the addresses, 86 Pine street for Compagne, and 1600 Post Alley for the Cafe.
