Can only recommend Coral Key Inn which is across El Mar Drive from the ocean.

Just left Lauderdale by the Sea. We stayed at Villa Courtyard and really liked its charm.

You have to take into acct that in any given place some people will really like a place and there will always be the complainers who always want to be treated like royalty and then if they aren't immediately run to places like hoteladvisor and bad mouth the motel/hotel.

Thought I'd post this in case others need to know! We just stayed at the Sea Lord in Lauderdale by the Sea for a week based on it's location and website (March 2005). It had a wonderful free breakfast by the pool every morning (bagels, English Muffins, cereal, fruit, etc.) and a great location, but there were too many other events that weren't satisfying. The pool is only open from 9:00 AM to sunset and apparently the beach closed at sunset, too!! They would lock the gates that were the only hotel access to the beach after sunset. Maybe this was for safety, but this seemed extreme-especially since there was always a hotel worker in the office next to the pool until late in the night. Also, the maids never replaced our soap, bathroom plastic cups, coffee, or coffee cup (yes, there was only one coffee cup!). Considering we paid $150 a night for a tiny room that didn't even face the ocean, we should have at least received new stuff every day. Also, there was a ton of garbage on the beach in front of the hotel--plastic bottles and other large items.

To top it all off, we had friends in the area that we wanted to visit us one day and the hotel was not accommodating at all. It's understandable that the Sea Lord wouldn't want to give them a one day parking pass in their small lot, but they even told us that guests are not allowed on the property!! I would recommend looking for another place to stay!!
