LODGING IN KEY LARGO
On our way to Key West in September, my husband and I plan on staying our first night in Key Largo. I was planning on booking the Marriott and I have been reading unpleasant reviews. Any suggestions on lodging for one night? Thanks.

I stayed at the Doubletree 2-3 years ago. It was great! I think I got a rate of about $129 for the night. The place was under construction and looks like a glorified motel on the outside but the rooms were fantastic. New, spotless, gorgeous and had everything I needed. I posted a review on TripAdvisor right after I stayed there cuz I was so pleased.

I also stayed at the Holiday Inn and had no issues. It was just fine for me. Nothing amazing, but nothing bad either. It was incredibly convenient for us, too, since we were going on a snorkeling trip the next day and it left from the docks outside the room. Our stay was on our way back from Key West and the snorkeling on the Coral Reef was the highlight of the trip. Amazing!

Depending on when you are going, you may run into two or three night minimums on a lot of properties.
We stayed at this place in Key Largo. It is oceanside, has a pool, was built in 2004 and the folks were nice. Rooms were great. There is also a good restaurant next door. Price seems to be in line with the Marriott.

This one is a bit farther down in Islamorada. It is bayside (good sunset), no pool, great restaurant next door (Milemarker 88)

One thing to remember about the keys, the word "resort" gets over used a lot.
