Sausalito/Muir Wood by ferry
Hi there -
I have been searching the forums and can't seem to find an answer to this one...
If we take the ferry to Sausalito, how far is Muir Woods from there? Can we make it there without a car and just take the ferry back?
Thanks for your help!

It's a few miles to Muir Woods (I'd estimate 8 or 10 miles) and you cannot get there on any kind of public transportation from Sausalito. There may be organized tours that combine a ferry ride with a bus trip to Muir Woods, but you'd have to organize that in advance.

Dneilp, check out the Golden Gate transit website. GoldenGateTransit.org
The shuttle to Muir Woods bus #66 (runs on weekends) picks up at Marin City. There must be bus connection between Sausalito and Marin City, just don't remember the bus(s) number(s).
It's doable to take a bus between Sausalito and Muir Woods, just need to know when and which buses.
Golden Gate buses also run from San Francisco to Sausalito, and to Marin City.
There are also bus tours which take you to Muir Woods first, then to Sausalito, and then it's optional to return to the city with the tour bus, or to take the ferry back on your own.

I'll try to help you with the research.
Bus 66 runs twice an hour during daylight hours Memorial through Labor days on weekends/holidays

I take Golden Gate buses on weekends, they are very dependable.
I'll come back if I'll find how to get from Sausalito to Marin City.

Hey, I was wrong! There IS a direct bus connecting all 3 points. Bus # 10 runs from San Francisco to Sausalito and on to Marin City.
http://goldengatetransit.org/schedul...-Schedules.php
So, you take Ferry to Sausalito, and bus # 10 to Marin stops right where the Ferry stops (OK, maybe across the street, ask any bus driver! Or ferry people). And then on to #66 (get a transfer from #10 driver)
Any more questions, will be glad to help!

Marin City is on the west side of the Freeway
at the far north end of Sausalito. (Where the best Flea Market in Bay Area used to be).
It's not that far of a walk up Bridgeway if you like
a nice stroll. You'll go right past the Bay Model
and the Houseboats. Real Sausalito.

Doug, the GG Transit people probably done some research, as the bus 63 to Stinson Beach is discontinued - it was mostly letting people off to hike in Muir Woods - and looks like shuttle 66 has replaced that bus. Maybe there is no much demand after the Labor Day?
If the bus 63 Stinson Beach will get reinstated I'll come back to report it.

Marin's a strange and wonderful place.
Look's like Fish has reopened.
