We fell hard for "Killer Taco" on Luhia, north of Safeway/Walmart. Great food and very inexpensive. Wish I had one right now! My hubby loved their kalua pig burritos. Mmmmm...
We also enjoyed "Cafe Pesto" in Kohala. Very yummy and affordable.
We found Bubba Gumps, to be great fun for the whole family. We went early-evening enough to get a table right on the water, without having to wait. The "I'm Stuffed Shrimp" is heavenly! My daughters delighted in feeding cracker crumbs to the birds and little black crabs. One of them declared their "chicken nuggets" her new fav.
Very so-so food at Wendy's in Keauhou, but most awesome view and sunsets!

If I had to pick one, it would have to be Sibu Cafe in Kailua. A close second would be Cafe Pesto in Kawaihae. Family run establishments are the best, and not having to spend $100 for a meal for two makes it that much more enjoyable.

We enjoy a number of restaurants on the BI. We like Brown's Beach House for its ocean front location, musical entertainment and hula dancer, and last but not least, very good food. We like Pahu I'a at the Four Seasons for the romantic setting, ocean front location, and excellent service; however while the food is good, it doesn't quite match the location. We like Roy's for the food, consistently the best, but the rushed feeling, noise and lack of view are all negatives.
In terms of the Canoe House, we've gone a few times, and yes the setting is lovely, but they charge somewhat more and the food hasn't been quite as good as Roy's or Brown's. It's probably on a par with Pahu I'a -- in a choice between the two though we'd go with Pahu I'a because of the setting.
For breakfast Pahu I'a wins hands down, outstanding buffet with the gorgeous Pacific right in front of you. If you go here for breakfast insist on a table in front and wait for it if you have to.
On a less expensive dinner note, we like O's Bistro in Kona, and we go there for the Mongolian Beef.
