Restaurant recommendations for Bozeman and Missoula, MT
Sorry for posting twice, but the first time I wrote the wrong city in the title. We are headed to Missoula and Bozeman to look at schools for my son. Need restaurant recommendations for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are a bit foodie, but just looking for good food. Love all kinds! Thanks!

Try "The Garage" in downtown Bozeman for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed "The Mint" restaurant in downtown Belgrade (just beyond the Bozeman airport) for dinner. The ambiance is interesting, the menu is creative, and the food is excellent!

Thanks guys, this is helpful. Beaucoup - googled The Mint and apparently they are under new management and the old owners are opening a new restaurant in Bozeman, called The Open Range - but it won't be open until Sept.

Also take a look at tripadvisor for suggestions. You will see there are many really good and reasonably priced eclectic restaurants as you might expect in college towns. In Bozeman, Ted's Montana Grill is nice. Montana Ale Works for good food in a brew pub. Mackenzie River Pizza for great pizza in both Bozeman and Missoula. Tons of great coffee shops and breakfast places (see tripadvisor). The Pickle Barrel is an sub shop by campus for huge and good sandwiches which is always busy - full of nostalgia for old MSU alumni (like me) as it has been there forever.....
In Missoula, Pearl Cafe is really good as is Caffe Dolce.

In Bozeman, Iecond the recommendations for Montana Ale Works and Mackenzie River (love their pesto pulls). For a more casual lunch, hit up Frank's deli...fantastic cheesesteaks and other sandwiches. Plonk is also supposed to be really good, but haven't been there yet. Plonk is in Bozeman and Missoula.
I really like the James Bar in Missoula.

Missoula:
Montgomery Distillery has great drinks.
Biga Pizza is my favorite restaurant in Missoula. Their salads and pizzas are wonderful.
Also second recommendations for Scotty's Table and The Pearl and Tamarack Brewery. Hob Nob is also good for lunch.
Check out Kettle House for beer.
Bozeman:
Montana Ale Works
Plonk
Over the Tapas
Nova Cafe
Pickle Barrel
Blackbird Kitchen
Madison River Brewing for great beer in Belgrade

For steak lovers, the Land of Magic Dinner Club is so worth the drive to Logan (30 min. west of Bozeman - don't blink.) Best. Steak. Ever.

Gardyloo, if you're ever in the area again, you should also check out Sir Scott's Oasis in Manhattan (a few miles from Logan). I think it gives Land of Magic a run for its money. Both the Oasis and Land of Magic probably have the best steak in the western U.S.

Great suggestions! My daughter will enroll at the U of MT next fall.
During our visit this summer, we loved:
Cafe Dolce (the not-at-the-mall location)
BigA Pizza
Scotty's Table
The Pearl
Tamarack Brewery
Looking forward to Plonk and Shadow's Keep! Thanks for the suggestions!
Did not like Montana Club. Like a Denny's with a Montana name. Will not return.

I'll second the Pickle Barrel. There was a second location downtown for a while but I think it may have burned a few years ago. Don't know if it every opened back up. We hit the PIckle Barrel every time we are in Bozeman.
