Resort for Extended Family Celebration Near NYC

Does anyone have a good idea for a luxury resort to celebrate an 80th birthday with an extended family in November? We are looking for a special place that has a very nice indoor pool that would be good for grandparents who can’t walk well to be near their swimming grandkids. It has to be within about 3 hours drive of NYC and reasonably accessible by car or plane to DC. The Sagamore in the Adirondacks is the kind of place we are looking for, but we have been there several times and it is too far a drive from NYC.

Thanks!

Look into the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY (about 2 hours from Manhattan):

Also, there's Troutbeck, in Amenia, NY (also about 2 hours from Manhattan):

I believe there are direct flights from BWI to Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY, which is close to both Mohonk and Troutbeck.

Thanks very much!

Do you have any recollection of what the indoor pool and the sitting area around it are at Mohonk and Troutbeck by any chance?

I don't think Mohonk has an indoor pool. It's a special historic place unlike any we have every seen. The food has gotten much better, but they do have restrictions on alcohol..only served in dining room. They often have "special" weekend events which might or might not work for your group. It's quaint not luxury, but expensive. We think its very worth going to. Excellent hiking trails for the kids.

Not sure Mohonk has an indoor pool. Have you considered Gurney's Inn in Montauk?

Might want to look at the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs as well. Might be a bit farther north than what you're looking for, but not as far as the Sagamore and cheaper than Mohonk. It's about 30 minutes from Albany airport, also there are two Amtrak trains a day ea. way coming from NY and Albany that stop in Saratoga Springs (I think the hotel will pick you up from the train). Very nice, hearkens back to colonial times, it is also in the woods, although like Mohonk it doesn't have It doesn't have an indoor pool. It does have access to mineral springs though. Also Saratoga Springs town is close by and is a nice town.

Skytop Lodge in Pennslyvania has an indoor pool. There are in Skytop PA, about 3 hours from NYC. This is a very family-oriented resort with 5-star amenities. It offers a myriad indoor and outdoor activities including biking, hiking, golf and tennis. They have a kids camp as well. The resort is centered around an old-fashioned stone lodge which has been lovingly preserved and restored. Check out their website at skytop.com. The grandparents could stay in the main lodge where the pool is, there are also 4-bedroom cabins a short walk away from the lodge.
