Need 3-day weekend near NYC

We are looking for a locale for a 3-day weekend near NYC. Here are the parameters: must be within 5 hours or less from NYC. Must have golf. Must be quaint. Must have fun things to do/see in the fall. We are thinking of Columbus day weekend and have already explored the Sagamore, the Equinox and the Beekman Arms. Any other ideas?

The old reliable question: How much do you want to spend?

The old reliable answer -- how much do I *want* to spend, or how much *will* I spend? Just kidding. As you can see from the resorts listed, we're willing to spend in the $200-$350 per night range. Any ideas?

Rhinebeck and the Beekman Arms and other hotels,B&B's in the area will be booked way in advance of Columbus Day weekend.

Mohonk Mountain House in the catskills, they have a golf course and it would be beautiful with the foliage, mountians, and apple picking. It's a resort with activities and meals included. 2 hours from NYC via the NYS Thruway. Great if you have kids. Food is average.

Try Newport or Watch Hill Rhode Island. Newport has some great hotels and restaurants and the state has quite a few excellent golf courses. Try Richmond CC and Exeter CC.

P.S. - The Equinox in VT may be very cold for golf in October

You might consider eastern long island. It is only 11/2 hours from NYC.Filled with beautiful golf courses, and the fall is wonderful with cool temperatures, but not cold. The vineyards and farms are brimming with their harvests, and the colors and sunlight is sparkling. The beaches are empty and are a delight to explore.

Here's another vote for Mohonk. The hiking around there is excellent!

Mohonk is great, but it is about $450 per night for the cheapest room (includes 3 average meals per day and some activities). Extras are golf, horseback riding. Rhinebeck is wonderful. Not sure if the Airdrome is open in the fall, but you should check it out.
