I live in Seattle and there are 2 great beaches- Alki Beach in West Seattle and Golden Gardens park/beach in Ballard ( my personal preference!) However the water is COLD and there is usually a fair amount of seaweed/kelp/wood in the water so swimming isn't that great.
GG is a huge park, concessions, volleyball, kite rentals, grass lawns, picnic tables, tons of beach, views of the Olympics, etc.
Alki has volleyball, mini statue of liberty, views of the city and the islands and the beach but I'm not aware of a true park like atmosphere as I don't go there often.
Keep in mind it is usually windy and a bit cooler on the shore. And the water is of course the Puget Sound not the open ocean.
