Rental Cars
In October my husband and I will be flying to Phoenix from O'Hare and then flying back from Las Vegas. We will be leaving on a Saturday and coming back a week later on that Sunday. I have not been able to find any good pricing on rental cars. For a subcompact, the cheapest I'm being quoted is approx. $750.00. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

Do not rent at the airport. Serach for off airport facilities, the price should be less and then take a cab or bus to that location. And try looking for smaller rental car companies. There was an article on this very issue in the NY Tines a few Sundays ago. Check their archives.

I tried Sat October 17th to Sunday the 25th of October, and am getting prices of $331 and up on www.Kayak.com.
I chose Phoenix and las Vegas (not just the airports) so some of the locations may involve a shuttle or cab, and this might not be your week, but just an idea of prices through

One way rental prices allow for the possibility that they will have to load your car on a truck and haul it back to Phoenix. Not many people want to drive a subcompact that far, so it is a real possibility.
Should there be a national or regional pool rather than local pools? Probably. Software would make it easy. But it doesn't seem to work that way now.
