Need for R&R 1st Wk of December--Where to Go?

My wife will be having chemotherapy and radiation therapy until about Thanksgiving. We would like to get away somewhere that is warm and relaxing within the continental US in early December. We live in California so would prefer the southeast--any suggestions for location and accommodations would be most helpful.

She will so appreciate a break after the treatments! What a lovely idea.

Naples, FL
West Palm Beach, FL
CHarleston,SC

not continental USA but often some great deals in Bermuda.

You probably need to give us some ideas about what you would like to do while you are on the trip.

You couldn't have picked a better time to visit St. Augustine, FL. It is the beginning of the holiday season and celebrated with Nights of Lights http://www.getaway4florida.com/nights/ and the Grand Illumination/British Night Watch Parade http://www.britishnightwatch.org/.

St. Augustine is America's oldest city and oozes charm.

Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach...and, as cmfcng noted outside the US, but Bermuda is great. In US so no passport needed, US Virgin Islands.

I don't think anything north of Florida will be warm enough. St. Augustine, Naples, Sarasota (incl. Lido and Siesta keys) will be more the ticket, IMO.

Or, there's always Hawaii, a personal fave--it would be my choice were I already in CA.

Thank you all for the feedback. We have been to Hawaii a number of times so we're looking for something different. We love to explore historic towns with interesting architecture; good dining is up there on our list; museums and culture are big with us. St Augustine sounds like a good bet for this trip. We have vacationed on Sanibel Island and loved it. Bermuda also sounds great. Any recommendations for places to stay in St Augustine and/or Bermuda?

St. Augustine should be fine that time of year.

Also consider New Orleans. It's pretty slow that time of year, which means that things are open, but you can get into restaurants.

For a historic city with very beautiful architecture, great food and interesting culture, you really can't beat Charleston, SC. In early December, it should still be nice weather there. Another choice might be Savannah, GA. Think "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil."

The Old City House http://www.oldcityhouse.com/ is on a quiet street, ½ block from the British Nightwatch Parade route starting and ending point and is very close to everything in the historic district. There is a complimentary breakfast for their B&B guests and it is excellent!

If you decide to stay there, Old St. Augustine Village http://www.old-staug-village.com/, an entire city block of history, is also ½ block down the street and you are directly across the street from the Lightner Museum http://www.lightnermuseum.org/main_lightner.html with its exceptional (lunch only) restaurant, Cafe Alcazar.
