Reno for one Wed night before Tahoe
Hello.. My three brothers are coming out to Reno/Tahoo (Apr 16-19)for three nights for a small get together before my youngest brothers wedding. I have a place in Tahoe for the last two nights at the Embassy Vacation resort. Will go to a comedy club on thurs night and ski friday in Tahoe. What I need is some info on what to do and where to stay in Reno on the first night Wed. Casinos will be part but not a focus. Anyone know an interesting place to take them for some pool or something out of the norm in Reno? And what would a good hotel be there. Any ideas? Something interesting or good value I suppose.. thanks! roger

Harrahs and Silver Legacy are both great. We have stayed at both. We like the Sterling Steak house at Silver Legacy for dinner. Harrahs has a terrific breakfast buffet. You can find some good prices now on the internet or in the S.F. paper. Probably Sacramento paper also. Just saw rooms at Silver Leacy for $39.00

mid-week in April you will be able to find great rooms in any of the major casino hotels for less than $50 - and most likely less than $35. And that is not using priceline or any travel website. In our local paper here in No. Calif every one of them (the hotels) advertise rates for midweek as low as $25 and mostly in the $30-$35 range.
So just pick which ever hotel interests you and go through them directly. Whatever you are quoted just ask for a better rate. This is a really down time in Reno - after the main ski season (but it is snowing hard in the Sierras today) and before the summer rush. Most hotels are hurting. A definite buyers market.

Silver Legacy is great for ambience, they have a comedy club/dinner package that is fun also they usually have some type of perfomer on the weekend (saw the B-52's couple of months ago). The Peppermill has really good food and old Casino style atmosphere. The rooms in both are nice.

hey thanks to all who replied here.. We ended up getting two rooms at Harrahs in Reno for the one night.. worked out great.. Then off to Tahoe for two nights and had a condo at the Embassy Suites Vacation Resort. (provided as an incentive from Charles Schwab) In tahoe we had the friday night buffet at Ceasers.. it was really good and at 10 pm the price drops to $10.99, so that was great.. crab legs and all..(which my youngest brother had his heart set on.. One more thing.. does anyone know at what point Harrahs will provide comps when table gambling. (craps).. I think I ended up loosing about $600.00 there.. which was in my budget so no worries.. smiles... Just curious... Thanks again.. Roger

Roger,
The minimum threshold for earning comps is 200 reward credits, which is the equivalent of playing about $600. Did you use a Harrahs rewards card when playing? Glad that you had a great time in Reno and Lake Tahoe.
