starrs, you should watch redsox.com around Thanksgiving. There will be a press release before they sell the first round of tickets. What usually happens is the first weekend in December they sell 4 game packs (which include some Yankee and opening day tickets) plus all the games in April and May. Sometimes they sell September as well at this point. The rest of the regular single game tickets usually go on sale in February.

Finally, there will be on-line lotteries for "special" tickets. These will include Opening Day, Yankees games, Patriots Day, the green monster seats, and the right field roof deck. Last year these lotteries were a bit more winnable than in previous years. We managed Opening day seats, and while we won the Green Monster lottery, we didn't get through and get tickets. (We also won the ALCS lottery this year and I had tickets for game 4 yesterday, if only the Red Sox had been in it!!).

I know the virtual waiting room is frustrating, but I've gotten through every year, except 2005. We always manage to get at least a few tickets. It takes the better part of a day, but it can be done.

I completely agree with china_cat. Its tough but manageable. If you have specific games, it may be tough but if you leave it open, you can generally find what you want. Or try acetickets.com or stubhub. Prices were nowhere as high as they had been. Yes, still higher than average but close to reality.

I heard today that due to the now exposed hijinx of the vaunted 3-4 punch, the 1918 COTBB has officially been reinstated. See you in 86 yrs.

Its not a LOT of spam, and they will send an email announcement about a week before the on-sale date.

I also wanted to clarify something from Gail's post above about rainouts. If you have tickets for a game that is rained out, the Red Sox will NOT refund the ticket. You go to the rescheduled game, or you find someone to buy your tix. There is no other recourse. The ticket brokers may refund, if they think they can re-sell the tickets, probably minus some "service charges". But the Sox give you no options. years ago they would allow you to trade in rained out game tickets for another game, but they can't do that anymore because the games are all sold out.

I have not had as good luckon Red Sox website as chinacat in past 2 years - but they say selection from virtual waiting room is random, so that makes sense. In the past one could open a zillion windows and be in a zillion virtual waiting rooms - that is no longer the case, as the site only lets you open 2 windows for past 2 years. I am wondering who does get to buy tickets prior to 6 PM - when it finally lets me on (and then sometimes to purchase standing room or single tickets). I have registered for lottery every year (as have 3 other family members) and never been picked for anything - but have friends who have been - again, luck at work.

Maybe the economy will make it easier this year. Ace Ticket really had some reasonable deals this year - so that remains another option.
