Question for Americans ...

Maybe this isn't the right forum to ask this but, I'm spending a day in the U.S. and one of the things my girlfriend is looking for is an XBox 360. Here in Canada they are about $400.00. Have any of you bought one lately and what did you pay?

I can't answer your question, but you might get more responses if you repost it on the Fodorite Lounge part of the board.

why would you want an xbox 360? ps3 is far more powerful and better. but nonetheless, if you must go xbox 360, i would definitely recommend the "elite" version of it.

you can also try amazon.com, they do feature some really great deals.

Agree that shopping on line will give you a good idea of comparative prices. And with many stores you can order on line and then go in to pick one up within a half hour or so.

Checking prices on the Internet is a good idea. There are several sites that will automatically search several sales URL's, when all you need to do is enter a search term. The one I use a lot used to be called 'Froogle.Com', it's now part of the Google{R} family of sites.

When I did a search for
"xbox 360"
I got over 58,000 hits.

My experience has been that any shopping on line will not indicate a price at a branch of an "online" store if you choose to go pick one up. Sometimes the store is lower (if they're running an "in-store" special), but most often is higher. That's true of all kinds of stores, from Target, to Circuit City, to Barnes and Noble, etc.

At Circuit City, you can buy things online and pick them up in the store, and you are getting the online price. At least, we did this about a year ago.

Some other stores will honor their online prices if you bring in a screenprint of their webpage.
