Will be in New York Cite first week in July for the first time. Can anyone suggest some locations for dinner before we go to the theatre. We love Italian, Asian and have read some great reviews on Fusion cooking. Looking for a moderate price range. We are staying at the Belvedre Hotel. Thanks

You might try Becco for Italian food. It's just a few blocks from the theater district.

Jerry, since you are so helpful, could you please help us do a search and list just a few of the zillion posts on Asian fusion food for pre-theatre in the New York theatre district. Apparently my search function doesn't work as well as yours. All I seem to find are recommendations for typical Italian, Bar-B-Q, and Ruby Foos. Surely someone has some better ideas that fit this question. But if you do the search for us and just give us a couple of the zillion ideas, I'm sure tony would be grateful.

Put "pre theater" "pre theatre" in the text search and scroll to "New York" in the subject search, I got 48 responses. It works, just takes time and effort.

Many restaurants have pre-theatre dinner menus. Is this your first time in the city? Are you interested in going to one of the local 'big name' restaurants? The pre-theatre dinner menu is a way of going to a top end restaurant without paying over the top prices. I've taken out of towners to the Russian Tea Room and Tavern on the Green for pre-theatre dinners that were memorable for the atmosphere and made for special memories. Cafe de Artistes is nice spot, with a more romantic theme. Foley's Fish House, right in Times Square is great for people watching with almost floor to ceiling windows overlooking Times Square and good crab cakes. All of these have pre-theatre dinner menus that are significantly cheaper than the regular menu.

And how many of those 48 threads listed any Asian fusion restaurants, A. M.? Your lists must have been different from mine. Why do you think that is?

Tony, not all us New Yorkers are as rude as some of the responses you got, trust me! I highly recommend Lattanzi for Italian - it's beautiful and romantic. If you want good sushi, try Hakata on 48th.

Stayed at the Belvedere in March and found it surrounded by restaurants. We enjoyed the Meson Seville on restaurant row 48th. between 8th. and 9th. They had very good fish, Spanish, and Italian food and have dinner specials. It is a short walk to most of the theaters from there. Check out the menus on 9th. near the hotel.

While not in the theatre district, you could try Roy's Restaurant down in the financial district. Asian European fusion cooking, that although is part of a chain, is rather well done and moderately priced. Now I am not a real fan of this type of cuisine especially with so many other specific choices in NYC; Italian, French, Japanese, etc., but if you are into that style of cooking, this may interest you. Thank-you to those who were polite enough to assist me with some great suggestions. I had never been on this site before and attempted the search but, was unable to find the Fusion cooking. Thank-you I was able to find some great suggestions on other dining places. This should be a very interesting trip.
