Please tell me about Luau's on Maui
I'm taking kids and grandparents to Maui and they want to see a Luau. I lost from all I've read about them, many to choose from, some good, some bad, getting discount coupons, arriving early, etc.
Anyone got some good advice?

I went to the feast at lele at the hyatt in kannapalli. I got a 2 for one for staying at an aston hotel so the price was right. The food was very good , and i thought the entertainment was very good. Everyone needs to go to one and enjoy the festivities ( tourist trap- mabey) but hey all of hawaii is a tourist trap in one way or another. My experience is that there are no discounts for the old lahaina luau. So go and enjoy and for me the feast at lele was a memorable moment and will be for you and yours. nick p.s. My wife and i took our own pictures with the dancers and i took one with the most beautifull young polinesian lady you ever set you eyes on ( my wife asked her- i was to timid lol). So i guess you reap what you sow. nick

The Hyatt in Kaanapali offers the Drums of Pacific (http://maui.hyatt.com/property/hotel...0&ssnav=0which) is a polynesian luau. Not to be confused with the Feast at Lele (http://www.feastatlele.com/) which is offered in Lahaina and is a meal that is served restaurant style with dance/entertainment that is matched to the meal course being served.

I agree that Luau's are overpriced, drinks watered down, but do give a nice fun, food and entertainment-filled historical approach to Hawaii. If you go, I recommend one that showcases ALL of the islands, and NOT just Hawaii, so you can try all sorts of foods and see all sorts of dances, etc., albeit by the same dancers!! Cool if you have NEVER done one. My suggestion on Maui: Ask for a window seat at Hecock's in Lahaina. If you time it just right, their window seats overlook a Luau!! Ha. We got a 2 for 1 dinner AND a free luau. Only OUR drinks were not watered down.!
