Plantation Retreat in Kauai?
My wife and I are contemplating staying at the Plantation Retreat in their River View Cottage. Does anyone have any personal experience with this cottage? I've read a few reviews on the internet that make it seem great.

I think freeny is talking about Plantation Retreat above Kapa'a (plantationretreat.com). I know nothing of this place, but there is a poster here who recently mentioned it. Personally, I'd rather stay somewhere closer to the beach (walking distance), but that's just me.

I know where it is as I passed thru this neighborhood a million times taking my kids to school. It is way off the beaten path with lush surroundings. It would not be my first choice of locations for a vacation unless you are seeming solitude.

We contacted them via e-mail initially. Through e-mail, we arranged the entire trip and sent deposits. You'll get directions and access to a photo slide show that has many beautiful pictures of the grounds and cabins. We enjoy hiking in Kauai and this place seems great for being "off the beaten path". We are looking forward to solitude!

Any new updates on Plantation Retreat? We have reserved space the beginning of November but have not been able to reach them for 3 weeks by phone or email. A friend currently in Kauai went to check it out, and reports back the site is gated and locked up, appearing to be somewhat in rough shape, hard to reach even with a 4-wheel drive jeep. Any comments would be appreciated.

...and their website is not available anymore:

Sad to say this, but you might want to start scrambling to find another place to stay for your planned November visit here.

try plantationretreat.com (without the .www.) to get their website. We're reserved for the first week of November but it makes me nervous to hear that the gate seemed locked when your friend checked it out. During our reservation communications in July, Jim (the owner) said he would send one final e-mail 3-weeks prior to our visit. When/If I receive the e-mail this week, I'll post to ease your mind, Bumpy. Hopefully their not out of business but only on a much needed vacation!

We are reserved for 3 weeks from today, and also received the email from Jim saying a final email would arrive 3 weeks prior to our arrival. It has not arrived. I looked for alternate phone numbers for Jim in a telephone directory, and found a 2nd number at the same address, but still no answer or machine. Our friend is going hiking this week, but will try to visit the site again. I am normally a very optimistic person, but....... I also will post when I learn anything.

I sent an e-mail last night to Jim asking to confirm our vacation and also stated I was nervous due to the postings I've read. I attached some of the threads of this post to the e-mail and sent it away. I also asked for a quick reponse in case I need to make further arrangements.

auntiemaria - Have you heard about the Plantation Retreat possibly going out of business? Bumpy and I are getting a touch nervous with 3 weeks to go and no place to stay. I called Sealodge to make last minute reservations and they were very nice and said they could fit me in, AT A DISCOUNT! How nice! Any opinions.

Aloha,
Can't help you out with Plantation Retreat, but DH and I just returned from our first trip to Kauai and we stayed at a fabulous "off the beaten path" place called Aloha Sweet Seclusion. Outside of Hanalei Bay, it is not as centrally located as your other plans, but the location is fabulous for hiking the Kalalau Trail. We loved it there! Thought you might be starting to make a short list of alternatives, and we liked this extremely secluded, yet jungle-type luxury place.

I've been trying to contact them. I am going to try and get them to stop their website from advertising: http://www.travelguides.com/home/plantation_retreat/
No answer to emails and phone is disconnected. Did you guys ever get your deposits back?
