worth the extra $$ to stay on Poipu beach in Kauai?

Planning on going to Kauai in October. Last year we stayed on Kaanapali Beach in Maui and loved it. We can't decide if we should save money by staying at Aloha Beach Hotel on the east side of Kauai (near Lydgate Park), or pay $500 more for the week and stay in a condo on Poipu beach.

What place are you considering in Poipu? Kiahuna is really the only condo "on" Poipu beach. If you are thinking about Kiahuna, check out vrbo.com and kiahunaowners.net. You will save a ton of $$ if you rent directly from the owners. You can rent a one bedroom condo there from an owner for around $120 to $150 a day. You will love Kauai!

We stayed on the beach (at Kiahuna Plantation, through vrbo.com). We wouldn't of changed locations for anything!!!! For us it was worth the extra money (we live on the beach during our trips to Hawaii).

The Aloha is an old Holiday Inn which is the old...which is the old...and so forth.
Nice but tired from what we've been hearing. Very short walk to Lydgate but if you want MHO, spend the $$$ and hit Poipu.
Kiahuna and The Whaler seem to get good here.
313.5 to go!

Definitely go for the condo. We just returned from a week at the Poipu Kai complex, specifically in the Manualoha buildings. We rented from Gloria's Vacation Rentals and the condo was great and only walked across the green belt to the Brennecke's beach. Plus within walking distance to Hyatt and Shipwreck Beach. Loved the location!

We stayed at a Poipu condo last week at Turtle Cove suites. Our room was $140/night and had a view of Whaler's Cove flowing into the ocean! The owner is awesome!

Poipu all the way! It is warmer and the beach is nicer. We have a timeshare in Lihue, but always end up at the Poipu beaches.
