Parking at JFK Airport

I will need to park at/near JFK for about a week mid April. I was wondering if anyone on Fodors could recommend a long term parking lot. Reading on line reviews, they all seem to be a mixed bag, so I thought I would turn to the voices of experience. Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Is doing a "park/sleep/fly" at a hotel an option? I do this all the time at Ohare since I have to drive 3 hours to reach the airport from my home, and parking is expensive, even in the cheaper lots. I like doing the hotel stay and leaving my car at the hotel (free) for up to two weeks usually. I don't know if JFK has such an option, but thought I'd mention it. Google search park sleep fly JFK if this sounds like a good option for you.

Hotels near JFK do not have manned parking lots or garages and the neighborhood is such that I would be very hesitant to just leave a car sitting there for a week or more - even if the hotel is willing to allow it.

Important info, nytraveler. I've never flown out of JFK. The hotel I use near Ohare has a garage with ticket access only. I have not had problems (knock on wood) leaving my vehicle for up to 3 weeks.

I typically use the in-airport long term at Lefferts Blvd, served by the AirTrain. For me it's easy access, no brainer. If you look around I'm sure you can find a private lot that will save a few $ per day.

Some of the hotels may have that level of security and allow you to leave a car there - have not toured all of them. But not sure that all have a secure garage.
