Airport Parking at JFK.
Need advice on options for long term parking. Is it safe to choose long term parking at the airport?
The cost sure seems reasonable ($15 for 1st day then $5 for additional days) And how convienient is that?
Any advice on off site parking at reasonable rates and safety? We will leave the car for 17 days.
Thanks, K.

Not sure where you're coming from - but I would never leave a car parked in a public lot for 17 days. I would organize some sort of public transit - even if it costs more - rather than risk safety of the car.
(And I thohg the cost was $15 per day for each day - never heard of $5 per day - unless it's a hotel you're staying at - and then there is NO security for the car.

I find it somewhat inconvenient to park @ JFK and take the AirTrain to the terminal. Between the time and the fact that I always seem to have to go up to get down in the stations. Last time I did a sleep n fly at a local hotel where you get a room for a night and they let you park your car there for "free". Works out well when you have an early flight so I don't have to leave home @ 3AM. I think Avistar may have a JFK option too.
I do believe it to be as safe as almost anywhere to leave your car @ JFK.

If you're parking at the JFK long term parking lot near Howard Beach, the cost is certainly $15 per day.
Where are you getting the information that it would be only $5 for the second day and beyond. If that's available, I might consider using that for my two week trip to Paris later.

Long term parking at JFK is $15/day. I've never seen nor heard of $5/day rate. Private lots cost more. I find the Lot A (Lefferts Blvd stop on Howard Beach AirTrain) convenient and predictable.
For 17 days I would seek different transportation to/from airport rather than parking though. I rent a car one way and for anything more than about 10days it's cheaper for me to rent 2 cars than to park at $15/day.

Sorry--I misinterpreted the parking rates--it IS $15 each day! From your posts I see that these lots have a train that runs you into the terminal? Is that a major pain and how much time to allow for the transport? Since we do not need a room before or after our flight I don't think the hotel parking would be the way to go. I will look into other options. Thanks--K.

The long term parking lots at Howard Beach near JFK (not the Avistar or other private lots, which are more expensive) are run by the airport and are serviced by the Airtrain.
The Airtrain (you should research this on the PANYNJ website) is the type of shuttle train that you find at many airports, running between the terminals, and will get you to that parking lot in about 10 minutes after your board the train. It is free to the various terminals, rental car parking, and parking lots. It costs $5 per person to connect to the subway.

Now that you see it is $15 a day, are you still thinking that paying $255 for 17 days is a go?
I'm not sure what your situation is, but I've been doing one day rental cars to get myself to the airport, and another one home from there for any trip longer than a week.

Not sure what to do---I checked with a couple of local car rental agencies (Enterprise, Alamo) and they will not rent for one way travel from our home in CT to JFK.
I did not check the BDL airport car rental companies because that would mean a 45 minute drive in the opposite direction, before driving to JFK!

Again, I don't know your specifics, but one of the advantages of getting a rental car is you pick it up the day before and just leave from home. Are you able to get somewhere like White Plains by train? I suppose the "state line" one way rentals do cause a problem, but if you can pick one up in New York. . .

Hi--it looks like we will drive in and park at the long term parking at airport. After reserching the panynj web site I am a little confused. Should we choose Howard beach station or Lefferts blvd? Is there a street address so we can plug in to our GPS and get to the proper lot? Parking lot A B or C?
We are flying Delta, so I believe we will be going to Terminal 3. (I'm guessing that we have to get onto the correct train)
Any tips on parking near the train station or is that not an option?
Sorry for so many stupid questions!
But your help is so appreciated.--K

You drive into JFK and follow signs for long term parking - it's the Lefferts Blvd area. Howard beach is the subway. There are 2 adjacent area A&B. Depending on where you come from you may enter closer to A or B, but they are joined. Just pick the best open spot.
From parking/Lefferts Blvd there is only one train. It stops at Federal Circle/rental car, then goes to T1, T2, etc. in order.

My experience is that on a good day I can get as close as aisle A11, on a bad day A15 or A17. Not a long walk, and there is a shuttle bus that'll help you out if you need. You just drive down the aisles till you get lucky.
On a holiday weekend I can find nothing closer than A35 or so - a long way away.
