Palm Springs weekend

Just back from Palm Springs, where we went to see the Desert Concours d'Elegance, a classic car show. There was a great collection of cars, plus not that many spectators - at least not as many as when you go to Pebble Beach, so it was very pleasant walking around, seeing all the cars, and not having swarms of people around.

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott. The first night, we ate at a Mexican/sushi/pasta with seafood restaurant called Margaritas. We should have had the sushi. The Mexican food was just ok, nothing great. The restaurant was within walking distance of the hotel, but the front desk clerk advised against walking there. She said a couple of night before, a couple had been mugged by some "transients" that hang out in an empty lot next to the hotel. She said it wasn't the first incident. So we ended up driving.

The next morning, we discovered Sherman's Deli for breakfast. Ended up going back there for dinner, and then breakfast again this morning. I guess you can tell we really liked it.

One or two summers ago, we overnighted in Palm Springs on our way to the coast. This was in August, and we didn't like it at all. This time, though, we came away with a different impression and really enjoyed it. We both agreed we would definitely go back.

We are considering the Courtyard the night we fly in. Was the hotel itself up to their usual standards?

The mugging story is a bit scary. That's good to know.

The Courtyard was the typical Courtyard, so it was fine.
We would stay there again.

Was the service at Sherman's fast? I remember it being so crowded, we just walked past it to some other place.

We thought the service at breakfast was excellent. At night (had dinner there once) it was slower, but still good.
