Quick Palm Springs Getaway

We wanted fun in the sun and a change of scenery so we headed to Palm Springs Friday evening and I am so glad we did!

We stayed at the Andalusian Court Hotel in VIlla 8 and truly enjoyed the quiet, restful location with it's climbing vines, walking paths and water fountains throughout the property. The room had a patio which overlooked the pool, a full kitchen, washer and dyer, living room and was all very nicely appointed.

We spend most of our time at the pool which is open 24 hours. The other guests were lovely and quiet and the location in a residential neighborhood also meant the streets were quiet... no nightlife to speak of in the immediate area.

Enjoyed dinner at Melvyn's at the Ingleside inn and enjoyed an old fashioned menu of Oysters Rockfeller, Caesar Salad, Steak Diane and Banana's Foster for dessert. ( I know, a zillion calories but we were celebrating an anniversary!) Best place ever for people watching!

Back in the pool the next day and home in the evening. Loved the hot temperatures and a bit of pampering. I highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.

Its about a four and a half hour drive from us... wish it was just a bit closer. I really enjoyed all of the ideas you all gave us... we just opted to stay in the pool this time. I really enjoyed the area and the idea of going back, trying other places, the tram, doing a bit of hiking etc...

I can't believe Melvyn's is still in business, and still serving the same menu as probably 40 years ago! Sounds like a fun time.

We want to go back also. We found the palm canyons fascinating. An oasis in the desert.

sf0307, Melvyn's was a complete crack up! WE could NOT believe the people that were there, the outfits, the liquor that was consumed was astounding and their drinks are STRONG!! The menu had things on it that I have heard of and read about but never seen before!

Sounds like a nice couple of days!

I had Christmas Eve dinner at Melvyn's, gee, 15 (or more) yrs ago! It was truly something out of the movies. A lot of 'older' gentlemen who couldn't resist talking to a couple of younger ladies. But, we weren't the only ones and it was all in good fun and never out of line.

And, you're right, about the way both the women and men were dressed to the 'nines' as the old saying goes! Good times.
