Orlando-Disney Hotel Question

Looking for hotel sub 200 dollars for family trip in NOvember... that is close enough to walk into either magic kingdom or epcot... or near monorail line... Checked disney hotels on property and they are all over 250 per night... any tips? Location is everything!

All the hotels that are "close enough to walk..." are considered to be in the Disney "luxury" category.

WHY are you adverse to staying in one of the cheaper on-property hotels and taking the bus transportation? In MANY cases you will get to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot almost as fast and for a hell of a lot less money. Nobody CARES where you stay there.

Disney does not give things away and if location is everything you are going to have to pay for it. the choice is simple - lower cost/longer distance or closer/higher price. Pick one.

You don;t say who/what your group consists of - if you give more info people may be able to make specific recos.

We like the Dolphin or Swan by Epcot. If they don't have a convention booked typically far less than the others. Go to http://www.swandolphin.com/ and sign up for Starwood Preferred Guest Program (if not already)then book with that rate. We've stayed for under $200.00 (last time breakfast for two included) and both are very nice. We prefer the Swan as we have kids and they have queen beds rather than the Dolphin double beds. If you don't want to walk you can take the boat to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

Not going to happen. We've been going to WDW regularly with our two kids since 2004 and Disney will price their hotels in a narrow band to maintain the ability to hold price steady.

Your best closest option might be the Contemporary. But, asking for below $200 a night is fairly unlikely as especially if it overlaps with some weekend event.

I think Dukey is correct. Why not consider either one of their Moderate resorts or their Value resorts? It's still WDW and the bus system goes everywhere you would want to go.

Every Disney pool has some unique theme element to it and they do a great job of making sure there is some fun theme at even their lowest priced All-Star resort locations.

If all goes well, you'll be out of the room all day anyway.

If you have kids the like sports, my son and I stayed a couple of nights at the All Star Sports resort. He LOVED the baseball themed pool and loved that he and I could play catch on the giant tennis court.

If transportation is an issue for you, all Disney property resorts offer a pick up to and from the Orlando airport as well as buses that run every 20 minutes and will take you to any of the parks/water parks and downtown disney.

Although it is not nearly as convient as staying on disney property and using their buses, many off site hotels run buses to the parks as well. They do not run as often as the Disney buses and often stop and multiple hotels, but if that inconvience isn't an issue for you then I would look for a hotel in the downtown disney area.

Thank you for all of your input... i will check out the swan...

My experience with disney LA is it is all about location... not opposed to moderate cost since so little time in room, but i didn't know which moderates were close...

None of the Disney "moderate" resorts are within walking distance of the parks. However, as others have mentioned, there is Disney bus transportation to and from the airport, theme parks, Downtown Disney and the water parks. If you want to walk to Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios you will have to stay at either The Boardwalk Inn, The Beach Club/Yacht Club, The Swan or the Dolphin. The Contemporary, The Polynesian and The Grand Floridian are on the monorail (which will take you to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot). The Wilderness Lodge offers a choice of a bus or a ferry to the Magic Kingdom.

I recently stayed at Coronado Springs (a moderate resort) and was very happy with it. It has been recently refurbished and the rooms have queen sized beds, flat screen tv's, etc. I had a rental car, so I only used the bus service to the Magic Kingdom and it was easy and convenient. Port Orleans French Quarter or Riverside could be another good choice. Port Orleans French Quarter is a smaller resort with a nice pool area. Downtown Disney can also be accessed by boat service from Port Orleans French Quarter.

I suggest you frequent disboards.com for everything Disney related. You can ask any question and if there are any deals available, the people on that forum will be talking about them.

Good luck planning your trip.

Ditto to pretty much everything above but also check out allearsnet.com or mousesavers.com for sales/specials info. Depending on your exact days, you may be able to get the deal you are looking for. Right now Disney hasn't released its Fall specials but will likely do so sometime in May.

What you ALSO need to know is that Disney (including for their "luxury" hotels) has a very VARIED pricing structure which last I read, included about 60 DIFFERENT "pricing" levels. For example, we recently stayed at the Beach Club during a week-long period in which the cost of the room was fully 50% LESS than we would have paid just one week later.
