One more ? about Broadway shows

I've benefitted from the wealth of info on this board about where to get tix, discounts, show reviews, etc.

However, I was wondering if there is a website that has a calendar of the shows playing on certain dates. For example, I could select Nov 22 and all the shows (musicals/plays) playing on that day are listed?

I'm heading to NYC for Thanksgiving (Nov 21-25) and am hoping to see 3 shows. Hopefully stuff like Mama Mia, Spamalot, Avenue Q, Wicked (as you can tell I haven't seen a show in NYC for a while!). With matinees, dark days, the holiday, etc., it is hard to line up which day for which show so the calendar feature would be really helpful.

If anyone can share such a resource that they know of, it'd be much appreciated.

Enjoy-la!

You don't really need a calendar. It's a given that virtually every broadway show has a matinee on Wednesday and either Saturday or Sunday. Most shows are dark on either Sunday or Monday. There are a few exceptions (Rent, for example, has an unusual schedule). You are going to be in NYC on Wednesday through Sunday. You will probably not arrive early enough to do a matinee on Wednesday, so you need to look for a weekend matinee. Almost all shows play on holidays (even Christmas and Thanksgiving). So there you have it. Look on Telecharge for full-price tickets, and look on Playbill.com or BroadwayBox.com for discounts. It's very unlikely you will find advance-purchase discounted tickets for this period, which is typically the busiest tourist week of the entire year for NYC. If you want half-price tickets, join the throngs at the TKTS booth for same-day tickets (or at the South Street Seaport) for next-day matinee tickets.

I don't beleive there's such a calendar.

That's a tough time to get tickets. Playbill lists all current shows and has links for tickets (at regular prices). They also have some posted discounts, but as Doug already said, it is unlikely to get discounts for that timeframe. Wicked may be a tough one becaue it is still vaery popular, but the other may have some availability.

I'd get on playbill.com asap and see which of those shows have seats on those days.

Thx a mint all for your quick and thorough replies!

I'll get on it right away! I hadn't realized it was such a popular w/end as I haven't seen many (any?) NYC TGD W/end posts before mine. Of course Fodorites were asking months ago when they were planning their trips (=

I posted for the "calendar" as my searches for Mama Mia and Spamelot on TGD came up empty. Also I wanted to know what shows might be available that I might not know to see (since I'm obviously out of the NYC loop). The calender is great mclaurie, but it is generic (i.e., lists Mama Mia for Nov 22 but when you click thru to Telecharge to buy tix, that date is unavailable). That's alright.

I just booked airfare for this trip yesterday - as this trip was a late decision and I was hoping for TGD airfare discounts at the end of Sept, like the ones offered last year.

Looks like I better hop to getting my hotel booked too!

I can't get thru to Broadwaybox.com (site error) so it's great to know I likely wouldn't find a discount anyway (thx for posting that info). I managed to get TGD tix thru Telecharge for Avenue Q (Left Orchestra Row J) and will work on getting the others now. Thx again for all the help.

Doug_Stallings: my apologies for splitting the my posts - I thought different people would answer them (i.e., I know there are some VERY theatre-knowledgeable Fodorites on this board, who might not usually respond to "NYC for Dummies"-type of questions). I will be sure to only submit one post for future trips.

Enjoy-la!

That Broadway World link for actual schedule doesn't seem to work. It shows no matinees at all on Friday, the 23rd and indicates shows on Thanksgiving night that are actually dark!

There are always a ton of Friday matinees that week.

Playbill.com should be listing them soon. I started to copy their schedule for Thanksgiving weekend and discovered it was for last year!

I just dabbled with the calendar out of curiousity and it's seems to be unraeliable. I plugged in thanksgiving day first. It listed shows that didn't even have performances that day. I tried other dates and when I went to the link to buy tickets, nothing was available.

I was lucky and able to buy the rest of our tix for evening performances thru Telecharge (no discount):
- Nov 23 Mamma Mia R.Orch Row L
- Nov 24 Spamalot L.Orch Row K

FYI, Broadwaybox.com is back up now.

Thx again. Very much looking fwd to NYC - enjoy-la!

Yes, that Broadwayworld calendar is a joke. It doesn't even know anything about a little show called Young Frankenstein. It doesn't come up at all even in December! Nor has it ever heard of The Little Mermaid or Pygmalion -- just for starters.
