NYC - what's the best way to sell theatre tickets I can't use for next week?
A group of us are spending Thanksgiving Weekend in New York City. Two people had to cancel, so we have 2 extra Orchestra tickets to 4 shows. I don't want to scalp the tickets - I'd just like to recover a little money for the couple who can't go.
I spoke to the Theatre Desk at the NY Hilton and they might be able to sell the tickets but everything has to be done in person when I get there next week. I'd like to have a back-up plan if the Hilton doesn't want the tickets.
Is it legal to sell tickets outside the theatre on the night of the show? Can I sell to the people standing in line at the TKTS booth in Times Square? Any other ideas?
I'm not sure it matters, but the shows we have extra tickets to are:
"Mamma Mia" on Wed, Nov 24 at 8:00 PM.
"Christmas Spectactular" at Radio City Music Hall on Thanksgiving Day at 2:00 PM.
"Fiddler on the Roof" on Fri, Nov 26 at 8:00 PM.
"The Nutcracker" at Lincoln Center on Sat, Nov 27 at 2:00 PM.
Thank you for reading my post and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

You can legally sell tickets outside the theater. Just don't try to scalp them. However, bear in mind that a lot of people (perhaps the majority) will be skeptical, fearing that the tickets might be fakes. Obviously, if you try to sell them at TKTS, you'll only get takers if the price matches the TKTS discount!

In addition to ebay, www.stubhub.com is also another good option.

Salsadiva - the Christmas Spectacular tickets are for the 2:00 PM performance on Thanksgiving Day. The Orchestra seats are Section 4, Row L, Seats 404 & 405. We paid $77 + $10 in service fees for each ticket; I'll sell both of them for $150. We could either meet outside Radio City Music Hall at 1:30 PM or you could overnight a check (at your expense) and I'll Fed Ex the tickets (at my expense). If you prefer to discuss off the board my email is [email protected]. Thanks for your interest. Douglas.
