Grandma's 80th birthday

My mother-in-law turns 80 in May-she does not want a party & a cruise has been ruled out-I am asking my fellow travelers for a suggestion for the family get-together.

PARAMETERS:
There will be at least 32 people(approx.22 adults & 10 kids under 16

We all live on Long Island(except 1 in Boston)

Preference is to drive

Geographical limits would be Virginia, western Pa., & Canadian border

Golf would be nice but not necessary

We would be open to a beach, mountains, resort, large house we can rent, meals or cook ourselves, basically any place where we can go as a group for 4-8 days-some possibilities are Jersey Shore, Maine, Williamsburg-we are open to suggestions

Thank you all for your help

Although I haven't been there myself, I have only heard and read good things about The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. It sounds like a great family vacation spot (and it's got golf.)

You do not indicate price range
so the Monhonk Mountain House
(www.monhonk.com) may be prohibitive
but since it is outside of New Paltz
it would be an easy drive.

Upon reflection, w/32 people wouldn't
that require a large resort or a
couple of house rentals?

If your 80-year-old grandmother likes to golf, that's what you should do.

What time of year are we talking?

Check out the Lodge at Wolverton Heights in Canaan Valley, WV. http://www.findrentals.com/12218.html
(There are better web sites with more pictures, this is just the first one I ran across) It's large enough for your group and our group of 30 had a wonderful stay there last summer. Each bedroom has it's own bath and the indoor pool is fabulous. Two state parks within minutes and one has a golf course. Everything from horseback riding, paintball park, white water rafting, in the immediate area. My 88 year old dad loved it, especially the fact that it had an elevator.
