OHare Parking?
Please help. Does anyone have any ideas how to avoid paying the $13 daily long-term parking fee at ORD. A ten day trip would cost $130. Ouch!!
I've often thought parking in the close by CTA lot and taking the el for $1.50 to the airport may be an option. Has anyone done this? Does the CTA check for cars there over night?
Or how about parking close to the airport for free and taking a cab for $5 or $10? Has anyone done this? Any ideas where to park for free?
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When my parents fly out of ORD they take a VanGalder bus from South Beloit IL Holiday Inn. I think they leave their car parked there for free while they are gone. VanGalder also runs out of Janesville and Madison WI. Don't know where you are coming from but your area probably has some type of airport Limo service that's cheaper than parking.

There are many hotels right around the airport which have "park & fly" packages where you stay at the hotel the night before or after your trip, and you park in their lot for the duration of your trip. These places have shuttles to and from the airport. In the past I've used the Hampton Inn and the Days Inn. Both are in Schiller Park.

Some suburbs have bus lines, the one near us is TriState and is $33 round trip http://www.busville.com/index.cfm.
There's Airport Express from downtown to the airport, looks like it's currently $37 round trip. Obviously, if there are more than 1 traveling it would be cheaper to take a cab from downtown.
I've also seen advertisements for other long term lots in the area but they would still probably be $7-$10 per day and would be less convenient. If you do a search for discount parking O'Hare on Google you should get several hits.
The Cumberland lot appears to be the only CTA lot that allows overnight parking and costs $10.75 per day. Wouldn't be worth the extra hassle in my opinion http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/park.html
