There are too many variables to know anything. - if your flight is on time, how long it takes to get your luggage/through customs/drop the bags for re-checking, length if passport control lines, etc.

Are they on one ticket or two? If separate bookings you may be in trouble. If they are one booking you are protected.

It is one ticket . As far as on time I have no way of knowing. Looks like on time record is very good. Assuming it is on time, single ticket, can I do all of what you say in 1:40 on a Sat at 1:30pm? Thanks Anne

Are you a US citizen or a visitor? Early afternoon can be busy in the arrivals hall at ORD, but it all depends on timing of flights coming in. If a lot of flights come in near the same time, vsitor immigration lines, in particular, can get pretty long--so that could be one of the biggest variables.

You will need to go through immigration (where lines can be long in early afternoon), collect your bags, go through customs, recheck your bags just outside of customs, take the train to the United terminal, go through security, then walk to your gate. If you're not at the gate at least 15 mins before the flight time, you could be shut out. Most days you'll make it, but other days you won't.

Also, it's very likely that the schedule of your ongoing flight will change between now and May.

If you are a worrier, then you'll be happier with the later flight.

If you haven't already bought the ticket, then go with the later time. Enjoy a meal somewhere in the airport.

If you've bought you ticket, then be optimistic and go for it.

I'm going out on a limb here, but a Saturday Memorial Day Weekend actually might be one of the lighter travel days. I could be totally wrong. Plus, depends on the staffing they have available.

There's no way to tell since there are so many variables.

Not just when your plane lands but also how many other international flights land near the same time (Immigration can be 10 minutes or 30), how long it takes your luggage to arrive and how long the security lines are.

I would never take such a tight connection but I am risk averse.

I would definitely have a list of the next flights out so you can maneuver if necessary (those with more info will get the better options from airline staff if a flight is missed).

I have found when I have had problems at O'Hare and other large airports that it is much better to call the airline's 800 while you stand in line. You can often solve the problem long before you get to the head of the line.

But I would not rely on that short connection, either. A headwind or ground hold, and you are toast.

I have been through O'Hare numerous times. Coming in from an international flight, going through customs, taking the train to domestic terminal, going through security and sitting in the airline lounge having a drink, all in less than 1 hour. When I did have a 2-3-4 hour connection I was not pleased because at that point I just wanted to get home.

1 hour 40 minutes should be a breeze, but there are no guarantees. That said, don't worry, it will happen and you'll be happy to be on that final flight home, sooner than later.
