Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo-Any reviews?
Hello all - Has anyone been to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo? Would you recommend it for March spring break 2010 for families with young teens? We are an active, tennis playing group. Thanks!

My father was the head massage therapist there for years and I visited the Club several times while he worked there. It is astoundingly beautiful and private. If you want a destination vacation in the Keys where you have a pretty half-moon beach and place to play tennis all day long, this would be hard to beat for natural beauty, safety, and privacy. The Club is large enough that the teens could go out walking or bike riding by themselves within the resort and feel they have some room to explore.
If you want lots of other activities and services close by to satisfy your teens, this probably isn't the place to go as you'd need to drive a ways. The Club itself has a decidedly "adult" feel. John Pennekamp Park is a short drive and would be a worthwhile diversion.

Thank you for your responses. Tmagyari, do you recall if there is a "game room" for teens with ping-pong, billiards, etc.? That may sound a little downscale but I know that some of the Four Seasons have them. Are you saying that if you wanted to see a movie for a change of pace, it would be quite an undertaking? There will potentially be 3 families with 13 year old boys in each. I did read the Trip Advisor reviews and felt they were too general.

Luckylass: I just checked with my father and he said that they have "everything" within the resort. Some families with children live there year round (which I didn't know).
Here is a good link on their website--click on "Family Fun and Relaxation" for info about their movie theater (shows movies 3 nights a week), and the Reef Rec Room for children (has pool table, ping pong, video games, hang out place).

Outside the club, Key Largo business area is 4-5 miles away and has other movie theaters, stores, etc.
Hope this helps.

FYI the closest movie theater in Key Largo from Ocean Reef is more like 25 miles away (I believe MM 91) and is a 5 screen theater. You would have a better selection by driving to homestead (the same, if not shorter, distance from Ocean Reef) to an 11 screen theater.

Hi LarryBee--that's so interesting because that's what I thought too. But then my parents (who lived in Homestead) gave me the info I posted above about movie locations, that there was one 4-5 miles away from OR. Maybe it went out of business?? They lived there 10 years ago.

I've been visiting or living in the upper keys since 1990 and I don't remember a theater in Key Largo existing except for the one I mentioned. I just googled theaters in/near KL and that one and the one in Homestead are all that comes up.
