OAHU-Royal Hawaiian/Moana Surfrider

What's the "best rooms" at these 2 hotels to stay in? These hotels are both "OLDER", so want to make sure we don't get a room that has not been updated recently. Are these 2 hotels close to each other and in a good location? Which hotel should we choose (better value, nicer rooms, etc)? Thanks..

Both of these hotels are really nice, but I know the Moana recently renovated their rooms. The Moana is next to the Outrigger, so it's a bit more central on Waikiki, but the Royal isn't too far from there. Both have great beaches. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Both those hotels are fabulous and are "old Hawaii" I have stayed at both at various times and they are always immaculate. I have NOT been in all their rooms of course but I can't imagine either of these hotels letting their rooms become sub-standard. Like all hotels you will get different prices for different views on different floors etc. but all the rooms should be very nice.

The rooms in the original section of the Moana Surfrider are pretty small.

Both hotels are almost right next to each other. The Outrigger Waikiki is right between them. They are located almost directly across from the International Market Place in the center of Waikiki.

The Sheraton Moana Surfrider has a newer tower, so if you want to stay in the older section, make sure you specify that. The tower has a much better view though.

They are very near to each other right in the center of Waikiki.

I have only visited the properties, not stayed at either, but the staff at Moana was MUCH friendlier than the staff at Royal Hawaiian (I was making a dinner reservation to celebrate my birthday). Loved the dinner on the terrace, ocean view, under the banyon tree at the Old Moana. Quite lovely.
