NYC Mid-town Hotels (west side)
We are going to a last minute planned wedding celebration on May 16th at a restaurant in mid town NY (near W 43rd and 6th Ave.). We will be arriving by train that day from Philadelphia (other family visit) and then flying home out of LGA on Sunday. The bride and groom's families are not from the area, so they are struggling to offer suggestions of places to stay for us. We are unfamiliar with the area as well. We want a nice, clean, affordable place to stay for the night. Walking long distances is an issue for one of us, so we will cab it to the event. Any suggestions for my husband and me?

Can you please also clarify "nice"?
Does this mean specific amenities - or just that it is not unpleasant in any way? New versus older? Importance of room size? Is street noise at night an issue?
Are you okay with cheap, cheerful and basic?

In scouting around, I'm thinking that I will need to pay $350 - 500 for the night. Would rather it be in the $350-450 range. I want a decent bed (king or 2 doubles), clean room and bathroom, staff that's friendly. Bar downstairs would be good. We are only there for the party we are attending and leaving the next day. Need an elevator---no steps.
