NYC Mid-town Hotels (west side)

We are going to a last minute planned wedding celebration on May 16th at a restaurant in mid town NY (near W 43rd and 6th Ave.). We will be arriving by train that day from Philadelphia (other family visit) and then flying home out of LGA on Sunday. The bride and groom's families are not from the area, so they are struggling to offer suggestions of places to stay for us. We are unfamiliar with the area as well. We want a nice, clean, affordable place to stay for the night. Walking long distances is an issue for one of us, so we will cab it to the event. Any suggestions for my husband and me?

There are many choices in the area. Tell us the actual dollar amount you consider "affordable."

Try Park Central Hotel. Good location, deals sometimes.

Can you please also clarify "nice"?

Does this mean specific amenities - or just that it is not unpleasant in any way? New versus older? Importance of room size? Is street noise at night an issue?

Are you okay with cheap, cheerful and basic?

I agree that we need more information to make recommendations.
We've sometimes had good luck using Priceline.

<<Tell us the actual dollar amount you consider "affordable.">>

Building on ellenem's point: It's NYC, affordable means $100 above what you think is affordable anywhere else.

In scouting around, I'm thinking that I will need to pay $350 - 500 for the night. Would rather it be in the $350-450 range. I want a decent bed (king or 2 doubles), clean room and bathroom, staff that's friendly. Bar downstairs would be good. We are only there for the party we are attending and leaving the next day. Need an elevator---no steps.

Check out the Park Central, it is around $300 for your date.

Have you used a search function website? Put in your date, your location preference and price and see what you get. I am seeing some good ones.

We just stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn at 42nd near 7th, so very close to your event. It was perfectly fine, clean, and comfortable.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to reply. Should be able to find something with your help.

Check out the Algonquin…. looks like they may have rooms in your price range.
Convenient and a little historic.

Recommend Distrikt Hotel on 40th.
