NYC in the rain? what to do?
We're headed to manhattan tomorrow, 5/25/05. Forecast is for rain the entire time we're there. Drat. We usually spend the time just walking and eating, generally pretty aimlessly. We love that. However, looks like we'll need more destinations and itineraries due to the rain. Any great ideas for what's happening INDOORS this memorial day weekend? Thanks!

Even though rain has been in the forecast for what seems forever, it actually hasn't rained much at all. It was raining lightly this morning, but now the sun is out and it's rather pleasant. Yesterday it was cloudy but I don't think rained at all (not when I was in and out anyway).
I wouldn't worry about the rain, but I would bring rain gear and layers. It han't been particularly warm here the past few days, especially in the mornings.
There's tons to do indoors...all the museums, clubs, and theaters for starters.

i personally love to walk around the city in the rain. it has a different look, different smell, and different feel. central park in the rain is gorgeous. but, if you must be indoors, here goes:
Star Wars at the Ziegfeld
A foreign film at the Angelika or Sunshine, and then lunch at Katz's Deli
Slosh through Soho and visit the galleries
Any museum
Tea at Takashimaya
Off-broadway

It looks like a cold and dreary holiday weekend this weekend, however, everything will be open, lots of museums, shopping, theatre, restaurants oh and did I mention shopping?
The city is at your feet, have a GREAT time.
We'll be in Chinatown on Sat for dim sum, if you are interested in a great lunch.

Even with the rain forecasts, we haven't seen or felt enough of it - very mild and a little misty, nothing more. Don't need to stay cooped-up indoors.
Here are some suggestions: MOMA, MET, restaurants, Broadway shows, lot's of walking around.

This just goes to show that you can't let a lousy forecast ruin your vacation. The forecast, as wantsomesun said, was for a cold, dreary, rainy holiday weekend. In actuality, it has been sunny and 75-80 degrees. Can't trust those weathermen.

And you could always do one of the bus tours (NY Party Shuttle is a better option in the rain than Grayline).
