NYC, rain, rain and more rain??

We are going to be there this Thursday morning through Sunday and, according to the weather report, there is nothing but rain, rain and more rain!! For those of you that live there, is it really raining that much, and is it heavy and steady all day, like it has been shown? Unfortunately, this trip was supposed to be about walking around NYC. We were there last year and did all the tourist stuff and don't really want to spend our very little time we have inside. We love walking the streets of NY and walking aroung Central Park, etc. I have been so looking forward to this trip and now I'm a little bummed out!!! How bad is it really??? Sometimes the weather reports are not quite accurate.

Last saturday was pretty bad... it started raining in the morning, and it got pretty heavy during the afternoon. Sunday was better, with only a light drizzle... Yesterday, it was supposed to rain all day. It only started late in in the evening.

Right now, it is cloudy, but it is not raining.

It's usually not so bad in the fall - not like the torrential thunderstorms you get in the summer - but you could get pretty steady rain at times. Why not just bring waterproof shoes/booties and an umbie?

Or - you could replan for another weekend - but the summer was very dry - and I think we're making up for it this fall.

Replanning is not an option, unfortunately. We do plan to bring weatherproof gear, I was just hoping to not have to walk all over in the rain. . . doesn't sound fun! Oh well, there's nothing I can do about the weather. Just wondered if it was steady ALL day or just intermittant rain.

We've had both steady and intermittent rain the past few days. So, who knows what the weekend will bring?

Last I heard is the rain is to end on Thursday, cloudy on Friday, and sunny but only in the 60s Saturday and Sunday.

I actually find it rather romantic to walk around NY (or London or Paris) in the rain. As long as you are prepared - waterproof shoes/boots, raincoat, umbrella - its not so bad. The worst situation is getting caught out unprepared. As long as its not driving rain storms, dodging lightening bolts, you will still have a wonderful holiday. I've been to NY in the rain, snow storm, heat of summer -- its all good.

This reminds me of a time I had a friend out in NYC, it was raining and her comment to the way the city was -

"It's like God's spitting on us"

Interesting I thought. I don't find rain in the city to be that big of a deal, but what I can't agree with is WHY the rain hits the ground. Most rain doesn't fall directly down, and you'd think if it was on an angle it would hit a building before the ground therefore stopping all rain. Not true, someone once explained to me why, but I still think it shouldn't happen.
